Jets Give Bart Scott Permission To Seek Trade

Looks like ole' Rexy can't afford his biggest Baltimore hand-me-down. Even though he's only played 3 years of his 6 year, $48M contract, the Jets have given him permission to seek a trade. His cap hit this season is a guaranteed ~4.5M and only increases in 2013 and 2014.

What is the going rate for an overpaid 2-down LB?

I can't believe the Ravens pursued this guy in the 2009 offseason but I'm glad it drove up his price and led to this.

The funny thing is, one of the teams that Bart would reportedly like to be traded to is Baltimore.

Bad news for him is, he's overpaid. That salary would kill what little is left of the Ravens' cap. Even if Bart's willing to restructure, he's 31 years old and has underproduced recently. It's time to develop someone next to Ray Lewis. Stopgap solutions won't cut it when Ray retires.

Do we not want him back?

I'd take him back.

What, you don't think the guy is worth the veteran minimum?

That's what we're talking about, right? The veteran minimum?

Right? Bueller? Bueller?

Vet min? Ha, go look at his current contract. He may renegotiate, but NOT to vet min. For the record, I'd take his [profanity deleted] back at vet min, but it aint gonna happen!

We could always see if Ray is willing to take a hometown discount to help pay Scott.

Not worth it even at vet min. We're looking to find a long term future at LB, and Scott, 32 in August, going into his 11th season is not that. His play also dropped off last season.

Impressive. It took 6 posts before somebody said they wanted him back. Jameel is by far the better option at this point, or drafting a guy. I was sad when Bart left, but he like so many others proved that playing next to Ray Lewis did more for his individual success than people realized. Adalius was the same way. Bart serves us better by remaining a Jet and affecting their cap as long as possible.

I think the most amazing thing to me, Bart Scot further proved that he was just a product of OUR system. Most of our Linebackers go sign big contracts in completely new systems. Here, the Jets sign Rex, Rex puts his system in NY. He signs Bart, Bart is playing in the same exact Rex Ryan system he had in Baltimore, and did absolutely nothing. This just proves that Bart was only good playing next to Ray, I'm sorry but if you leave Baltimore go to the same exact system as Baltimore, with the guy who was your DC in Baltimore and can't do nothing, then Bart needs to give Ray some of his contract money because Ray got him that big contract with the Jets.

So after Ray gets Bart a massive contract because Bart played beside Ray, just like Ed Hartwell, you also want Ray to take a discount to finish paying the massive contract Bart only received because of playing beside Ray?

I nominate you to say that doozy to Ray.

I think the phrase "burned bridges" fits here.

Also "absolutely completely retarded"
.. That one fits too

It was a joke, referencing Suggs' idea that the three linebackers take a hometown discount to stay together back in 2008, which Ray shot down immediately.

For those of you wanting Bart back, remember how he shot his mouth off as soon as he got to NY?

I say let him go anywhere but Baltimore. Anyone who wants him badly enough is desperate. The Ravens are not desperate.

Like any former Ravens player that leaves here, they all go down the drain pretty hard. They dont realize how good they got it here.

Bye Bye Bart. Nice knowing you.
