Laradrius Webb Contract Update

18 posts in this topic

The Ravens are reportedly "pushing hard" to sign restricted free agent CB Lardarius Webb to a contract extension.
Mike Wallace and Arian Foster have garnered all of the hype among RFAs, but Webb isn't far behind. Fully recovered from ACL surgery, Webb flashed Pro Bowl form last season, particularly down the stretch and in the playoffs. Baltimore's capologists have their hands full this offseason in extending Webb, LG Ben Grubbs, and QB Joe Flacco in addition to the franchise tag for Ray Rice.

I would love to get him wrapped up before he really proves hes in the second tier of CBs next season (Tier 1 is only Revis in my opinion).

Agreed, it would be awesome of we get Webb inked. Cut fox, kinda torn on Carr, he isn't flashy or special but he's better depth at corner than many teams have. Although I also want to see gorrer and brown develop and keeping Carr would push them down the depth chart

Webb should be a top priority. We haven't seen a CB like him in years on this team. Plus, he is mentored by Ed Reed. PAY THE MAN!!

Honestly, I'd rather lock this guy up before Rice and Grubbs.

No doubt about it. Well, except that he's not a UFA...

I think he means in today's NFL a high calibre CB that is as versatile as Webb is has more worth to a team than an above average G or a top 5 HB in the NFL. With the way teams are going 3 WR as their base offense these days.

Being a RFA isn't really that different anymore. Why wouldn't a team in the bottom of the 1st round go after Webb?

In previous years, a 1st and 3rd round tender was enough to scare most teams off, but thats not the case anymore.

Oh, I totally agree. All I'm saying is that Grubbs and Rice are unrestricted free agents and Webb isn't, so they're just slightly more of a priority. Webb we can match any offer he gets.

Yes - except that we have the opportunity to match any offer he receives. If his agent thinks he'll get a big offer, he would be dumb to sign now - unless he REALLY, REALLLLLLY wants to stay a Raven, even for several million less a year? I know he's tweeted as such.

Same here. I've felt this way for a while now. Grubbs & Rice are easier to replace than Webb. Look at Trent Richardson. I honestly think Trent will be better than Rice. No knock on Rice at all. I also really like that guy Pead.

We've signed how many corners & safeties throughout the years to duplicate the production of Reed & CMac as playmakers, and we finally have some top talent there. Let's not allow it to walk away.

Webb needs to be resigned. To me, he's the most important free agent of all - as much as it would pain me, we could find a serviceable running back or a decent guard in free agency or the draft, but finding a corner as good as Webb in today's passing league, particularly one with the added advantage of playing safety in college and therefore of maybe one day taking Ed Reed's place if we need him to, would be ridiculously hard to come by.

Well up until now, many people were thinking we would just RFA tender him with a 1st rd draft pick. Soo this confirmed the ravens are trying to sign him long term instead of using the tender. Soo its better then nothing, if u can find something better - be my guest.
