Texans Next Year

What about the Texans next year? No Williams, less protection for Schaub with Winston gone, and now Demeco Ryans is gone? They just killed their defense by not re-signing Mario Williams and trading Ryans to the Eagles. Now they need a RT to replace Winston, they just took a step back in my opinion with this off-season.

I believe the Titans will win that division this year. Texans have a very difficult schedule & their team has lost some very quality players. Unlike our team, they cut their RT. Tackles are the bookends for your line & losing those players is like losing the bread off your sandwich--it's very sloppy.

They might believe in that other guy, but I would be worried. They will probably draft a replacement. They need some WRs, too. I also don't think highly of Schaub & think Yates had a good rookie season but will slump this year if they start him.

They won't be able to get a ILB in the first but maybe if a OT slides down enough maybe they trade up for Riley Reiff or Jonathon Martin to replace Winston. As for replacing Ryans, they are supposed to put Daryl Sharpton next to Brian Cushing as their ILBs so to me I think they are just getting younger. I do think it was a smart move not to break the bank for Mario Williams and re-sign Center Chris Myers but trading Ryans and releasing Winston??? I'm puzzled by those two.

They can afford to lose Ryans. The only thing they truly lose there is his leadership which can't be discounted. His production may be replaced or at least masked by their front 3.

As for their line, that is what I think their biggest problem is. They lost their RG & RT. They retained their center to their left tackle. That's a lot of change for their line. Compared to us, we have one guy missing (Grubbs). It's easier to work one new piece than two new pieces.

But they also get Schaub back. Andre fully heathy (maybe) and they have the guys to make up for Williams and Ryans on defense. They are also most likely drafting a WR this year, so I think they'll be just as great next year.

They also lost their entire right side of their offensive line. That could be a big deal.

They clearly didn't need Williams on their defense. He was out most of the year and they did great. Ryans is probably a notable loss, but with Wade Phillips it won't be too noticeable. It's their second year with the same kind of defense now, so if they're going to be less impressive, it's going to be because of the changing gameplans against their D, not personnel shift. Division opponents will be paying close attention to that D instead of being blind-sighted by it at the beginning of the year.
