Texans Next Year

67 posts in this topic

I view the Texans as threats next year. I think they have a dangerous team that will only get better. As much as I dont like admitting it, but I am happy that the Colts are no longer the team in the AFC south.
I also believe over the last few years the Ravens and Texans have developed a miny rivarly with eachother. It's always entertaining watching these two physical teams play.

As a team that I feel is a true contender in the AFC and a power house threat to not only us, I feel there should be a thread dedicated to talking about them. We also play them in the regular season which should be a great game.(Also there is a thread about the Bengasl who are our rivals and a up and coming team so I figured why not.)

I think we can all agree the one thing the Texans truely need is a #2 WR.

I thought about a possible scenario that could happen...

They have a few big name free agents including...
Arian Foster,Mario Williams,Chris Meyers,Quentin Demps,Neil Rackers, Matt Turk, Joel Dreessen

I think they will franchise Foster, place a 1st round tender on Demps, and re-sign Rackers+Turk.
I think Mario, Meyers and Dreessen are gone.

(They also have a decent amount of cap space as well. I read they are under 25 million).

I think Brooks Reed will replace Mario at OLB, making their LB core: Barwin,Reed,Ryans,Cushing. (IMO 2nd in league to 49ers)

I think that they draft Peter Konz (I hope not) and then draft a CB or TE in the second round, maybe even a back up QB.

Then they will have a little bit of money to play with,
Now imagine this... The Texans pursue a free agent WR this year.

Whether thats Vincent Jackson, Dwayne Bowe, Maques Colston, Steve Johnson, or Reggie Wayne. All of them would help there current squad. (Andre & Vincent would be so nasty)

If they can stay healthy IMHO they could be the most talented team in the AFC.

Here's another scenario:
Resign Meyers, trade first round pick and sign Wallace.
or
Resign all their big name guys and sign someone like Meachem or Manningham.

This is just to show everyone what could happen to a fellow playoff team, that we could very well see in the playoffs for the next couple years.

Do not get me wrong, I dont think they would be unstoppable, or even better then us, I'm just showing a team thats on the verge of competing year in and year out. For those who dont know

i think they will look at Kendall wright or Sanu in the first round of the draft, they will resign Mario Williams and Foster, lose Myers and their starting LG is a FA also.

I think they resign Brisiel. I dont think he'll get that much.

Well you are wrong on a few things but good read.
1st. We are in a pretty bad cap situation. We will be able to retain most of our players but no FA moves probably.
if we want a WR we will get one through the draft. Hopefully Sanu.
2nd. No way we let a top 3 center walk. Maybe Brisiel but not Myers. They are mainly zone blocking linemen and we are one of the only teams who use it predominantly. I think we let go of Mario and keep Rackers, Foster, Myers, J Dreesen, Brisiel, and some other small name FA's.

you would rather have your center than mario? i would agree, you have replacements for mario, than can do as good a job, for half the price, id let him walk tbh. You win in the trenches, keep that oline together, add a WR, a safety and another CB and you will be probably favourites in the AFC

I had them as potential sb winners before he injuries. They will be dominant if hy an keep their core together and get another wr. They are the most balanced team I feel when healed up. I hate we keep getting stuck playing em but should develop a nice rivalry.

Do you know what Texans cap space is? I read that you were under 25

The Texans are scary. Period. Next year will be a much bigger test for the Ravens to accomplish similar success as last season and to actually finish it off.

According to the link I have at the bottom of this here post, the Texans have only 3.3 million in cap space... far cry from 25 mill that has been thrown around. Oh, and I think that a Texans fan would know the Texans situation better than a Ravens fan... lol

Haha.. thanks man. I appreciate it.

But I think the Texans are going to have some tough decisions to make regarding FA's. Honestly, I think the Bengals are going to be the team to watch next year (outside of us of course, and the usual powerhouses).

Obviously you know your own team better than I do but I agree that you'd be better off letting Mario leave, resigning Myers and Foster and the others you mentioned. Your defense proved more than up to the task without Mario for most of the year so break the bank to keep Foster and Myers and let him walk.

Who do you think you're targeting in the first round of the draft (or, which position)?

I have them penciled in as a team we loose to next season.
No saying we will for sure lose to them. BUT we have to go to their place and they will have the playoff loss in their minds. You know they are thinking if they had their starting QB it would have been a different game. The power of redemption is a strong thing.

But from our end we believe if Cam had gotten his head out of his [profanity deleted] & made some adjustments and if our O line could handle short yardage the game wouldn't have been as close.

It'll be a good game for sure. Hoping it gets prime time. Doubt it though.

With Schaub and Kubiak at the helm, I honestly don't see them winning the big one because Schaub has failed to make the necessary plays down the stretch time and again and many Texans fans thought before this season that Kubiak was a whimpy coach, and that he may not be out of the woods yet. Having said that, they certainly have the pieces in place to do damage for years to come, and while I don't see them as a rival until they beat us, I think it's going to be extremely tough for us to beat them at their house next season.

Texans finally have all the pieces in place around Schaub, There team has never been this good. They have never had a RB as good as Foster, Never had a defense as good as it is now, they have one of the best WRs in the game, and one of the best O-Lines. Even though I cant see Schaub holding the trophy I think he defintely has a chance to lead them there. He's a very good QB. And how can you say you cant consider it a rivarly until they beat us, that sounds like what they the steelers said lol. Rivalrys aren't always based on wins/loses

OK, but this does not have the same intensity and hatrid that us/pit has, plus we beat them a few times with Flacco Harbs even before this season (no Ben, I don't care), so it was closer than what people thought. The intensity between us/hou is building, but until it gets any larger, I think this mini rivalry needs more balance in wins/losses to compensate.

They are a (minor) rival, although I do not think that we have the seething hatred of the Steelers rivalry. It is more a good natured rivalry. And I do expect them to really give us a hard way next year. It will be a good game no matter who wins.

Do they? I guess since we have beaten them every time the two teams have met, they may hold a bit of a grudge. As a Ravens fan I am not really concerned with the Texans, short of acknowledging that they are a good team that gives us a fight every time we play.

I hung out at their board for a wile before and after the last time we played them. The fans at the very least are very bitter.

That team is going to give us a serious fight next time we play them ( which will be in Texas )
