Does Anyone Know Who The Steelers Will Lose?

23 posts in this topic

What will their Roster look like next year? 25million over the cap, correct me if I am wrong but isn't that WAY over the cap? I try to keep up with them year by year, you can't smack talk your enemy unless you know them! So any news or thoughts on what the Steelers will look like next year? Who stays who goes?

No idea. A lot of older big names could be shown the door though.

I don't envy their situation but I relish watching them squirm.

Oh how it would be awesome for the Pittsburgh Steelers to suck next year. Hines Ward likely will not be back, Mike Wallace seems about 50/50, and a bunch of other older players may leave or restructure their contracts. Pittsburgh is delcining. 2012 is our year, or we're just a lamer version of the Buffalo Bills. Go Baltimore Ravens!

They're really paying for giving mutliple 30+ year old defenders lucrative contracts, but that FO is as good as any in the league at restructuring, so I'll give them that.

The way I see it, restructuring only prolongs the inevitable. They're going to have to pay out that money eventually, and then they're going to hurt BAD.

With the Ward release, the Steelers are under the cap now (probably $5M-$7M depending on where the cap gets set. They still have a few others they can restructure plus Aaron Smith will be released or retire. Farrior may also be released or accept a pay cut. Our situation isn't really that bad. We have few RFAs to sign and only one of any critical importance (Wallace). The Ravens have a different set of challenges in that although they have a few million extra to play with, they still have more top tier FA's to sign (Grubbs, Rice, Johnson, Burk at a minimum) and would want to extend Flacco as well. I think both teams will weather the 2012 cap number and will not look substantially different than 2011. There will always be turnover of the roster. This year a few big names are gone from the Steelers but they had already been reduced to role players last year.

Schefter just reported they are tendering Wallace!

I would be shocked if a team didn't give up a first for him.

Young, not even in prime yet, has tons of potential, proven as at the very least as a game changer/deep threat/playmaker.... if a team doesn't give up a first for him, the Steelers have some conspiracy going on. Just kidding about that part, but it would definitely be a sin not to pick him up, especially if a team has the need for a deep threat/number 2 reciever with 2 picks in the first (Bengals... looking at you).

All they can afford, there's like a $6.7 million difference between the tag and the tender. Funny that this comes out a day after Hines Ward's release. We know where that money went

I hope some team pursues him (not us), at least just to bump up the price.

Ziggy's pretty good. I'm wondering if Heyward will be a starter now.
Also, reports are saying Farrior may be the next to be cut, but I think we all saw that coming.

Kemoeatu is gone now too

Eh, mixed feelings. Dude was a cheap shot artist so I'm glad to see him go but he was also a terrible lineman, you figure anyone else is an upgrade.

Prepare to see Mike Wallace catching passes from Tom Brady next season
I can see the Pats offering him a contract the steelers cant match while giving up a first

This is my feeling as well. I really see Wallace going to the Patriots if they do not franchise him. I don't see Webb being in jeopardy, because the Pats have secondary players--the problem is that those players are all hurt. I see the Pats going after Wallace & taking him.

How the might have fallen.

Not a rumor anymore - Farrior's agent tweeted this morning that he's been released.

I think they will be more likely to pursue Wallace because they have a rather young defensive backfield and i think they are high on McCourty aswell as Dowling, but they don't really have a true deep threat, as Ochocinco likely gets cut and never really seemed to get what this offense was all about

I can see that happening, just wish of Wallace was taken he would leave the afc.
