Mike Wallace To The Bengals?

58 posts in this topic

Was just watching ESPN and heard them discussing this. Mid way thru I hoped the Bengals weren't watching and that they never considered this.

1. They have the money to do it.
2. They have the picks.
3. Worst of all they have the need.

It would be hilarious to watch the Steelers lose their best weapon to a division rival but the Bengals with that move could make a huge splash. The already have Green who is a beast and will only get better. Adding a player like Wallace would make them tough to compete against. They have a pretty good o line and could basically add any back and fill Bensons role. Just seeing what you all think. I know I don't like the idea as funny as it would be to see Steelers become the 3rd best team in the division.

Edit: Sorry, wrong section

Adam Schefter said that the steelers are in a terrible position because they are over the cap .They can't place a first and third round tender on him only a first so a team with 2 first round picks like Bengles or Browns could possibly acquire him.

wouldnt have to be a team with two firsts...anybody who wants a beast WR and has the money can get him. Would be awesome if Seattle claimed him!

This would be worse than anyone could imagine for the Ravens.

Here is why. This trade actually strengthens both of our rivals

1. The Bengals get Wallace who is an unbelievable vertical threat
2. The Steelers who are capped out, get an extra first round choice to bolster their againg defense or replace wallace with.
3. The Bengals don't actually lose anything in this deal
4. The Steelers who would unlikely be able to resign wallace anyway next year would get compensation for losing him and would not have to worry about using an extra pick to get a replacement WR.

This better not happen, but given that it is inside the division it probably wont.

The problem is the Steelers wouldn't have a choice cause they wouldn't be able to match the offer. This to me is a just a bad situation. Not only that but the Bengals already play us close every time and Wallace knows us. A move like this wouldn't surprise me unless another team made an offer. Luckily there are still other teams with this need. If he doesn't end up Bengals or Pats I'm ok with it.

Ok this is slightly off-topic but

just saw Schef announce on Fb that the Bengals have hired Hue Jackson as their assistant coach working with the secondary and st.

Just saw the even the Ravens could be interested in him. & that there is only a 50/50 chance that he'll be in Pittsburgh next year.
How would you guys feel about that?
IMO I think Ben will lobby to resign him. Even though they have 2 fast young wr's behind them, Wallace is a beast.
I bet Hines Ward is happy that he may get to stay if Wallace leaves lol

We have to defend Webb too.

Those Poachers in the North with multiple picks are likely try to take our players.
[/quote]

They're going to make a move on him. Gms see the hands and coverages ability he displays and I wouldn't mind people making a kobe because I feel that would force our hand to lock him up long term which I want. Webb is a special player and you need those in your secondary. Not only that but he was a safety coming out of college and when he does start losing a step or two he can probably just be moved back.

Mike Wallace on the Bengals would be absolutely beast. They would have a great young Qb, an excellent WR in Green with size/speed/jumps, and Wallace who would open up coverage on Green because he can absolutely fly and make plays. I've also heard that Trent Richardson could fall to them..... imagine... Andy Dalton throwing to Green/Wallace/Gresham, with Richardson getting fed the rock in between. That would by a dynasty offense imo

I heard the 49ers are looking for a WR in Free Agency and the Draft, and quite frankly I would love for Jim Harbaugh and the 49ers to be the team to take Mike Wallace away from Pittsburgh but at the same time, I can accept Cleveland and Cincy having two first round picks but I would HATE if Pittsburgh had two first round picks.

I really like the young talent the Bengals have but the last time I checked Mike Brown is still
the owner and he's not exactly a free spending owner, also the Bengals haven't won a playoff game
in a very very long time. The Ravens also beat them twice and don't you think teams will have
film on Dalton and Green, sophomore slump perhaps?

Schefter also just said that we're a possibility of a team who could go after Wallace.

Wallace and Torrey is just scary.

Tempting. I just wish it was anyone but the Steelers who had him. I'd hate to give them another first round pick. But 29th isn't all that great

We are not going to go after Wallace. Mark my words. We will not give the Steelers an extra first round pick, no matter how late it is.

I am not sure what you guys are talking about in regards to how it would be more difficult to pull this off within the division; it would actually be easier because you could poison pill his contract like New England did with Welker. They offered him a huge bonus if he played 5 games in the state of Florida, which he would have done in Miami but never in New England, and Cincy could do the same thing with Wallace in PA.

EDIT: Unless they did something about this in the new CBA

Wallace is not like Welker though. He would never be happy/play hard if that was to happen. Welker plays hard no matter what (whether he lost the Super Bowl for the Pats or not is arguable and irrelevant here)

The last time the Bengals got a #1WR who was supposed to turn their offense in a nightmare... well, 4-12 speaks for itself. Not saying Wallace is anything like TO, but that has to be in the back of the Bengals' minds. It should be in your minds as well. Big FA signings rarely work out. How do we not see that yet? I'm more worried about the Bengals with two first rounders.

Alot of them are more adamant to add Lardarius Webb more than Mike Wallace. Both Patriots,Bengals are highly suspectible of stealing Webb with high offer considering they have more than enough salary cap to fit a #1 CB in.

But Wallace isn't supposed to be a number 1.. if anything, he's supposed to be a 1a with AJ Green. All he'll be asked to do is make plays and go deep to open room for Green and the run game. And TO was pretty dang successful in his own right with that team when he played with them that year.

So was TO with Ochocinco. And it failed. TO had a good year but the rest of the offense sputtered until the last few games when both TO and Ocho were out. Wallace is just another hungry mouth to feed on an offense that is headed in the right direction without him.

True that. But Green/Wallace aren't locker room cancers that TO and Johnson were. Both are hard workers (even though people say Wallace is a punk, he's not a slacker like DeSean Jackson is).

While that may be true, we can definitely match the salary of Webb, guaranteeing him to our roster. The Steelers are tight on cash, and they may not be able to match another team's offer on Wallace.

If we plan on signing Rice and Flacco to longterm deals than we will be very strapped on cash.

Yeah we'll be tight, but we'll have enough to match Webb. I can't imagine anyone dropping a 1st on him anyway. It's possible, but doubtful.
