.....before releasing anyone.

Releasing Foxworth and Evans, and Ricky Williams' retirement, will create a little over $10M more in Cap space:

So about 20 under the cap and maybe around 4 more if Birk retires I think. Pretty good situation if we didn't need to resign key players. Actually now that I think about it we are in a very good situation cause Ray and Ed are probably playing their last year next year and I think that frees up around 12-15 mil.

there's going to be some surprises like last year

i wonder if there will be contract renegotiations on any players

I read somewhere that the cap this year may actually not go up, it may remain the same or go down.

Isn't Birk's contract up? I thought he was a FA this year.

Maybe, I thought he was signed to a four year contract thru next year but I probably am wrong.

We have to sign Joe and Ray to long term deals, and hopefully Grubbs and/or Webb. I dont expect a big name signing that wasnt on our team last year.

Once we sign Flacco to his extension and pay Rice his money .. we also need to resign Grubbs and/or Webb. I dont think we will have much money at all to play with in FA. We also have a few other guys to resign, Redding, JJ, BA, etc if we choose.

BRavor, didn't you say that Flacco's cap number for 2012 was 8M?

If so, signing Flacco to an extension could also free up some space.

I hope we do a new deal for Lee Evans. It would be foolish to let him walk when we gave up a 4th for him.

And honestly, we don't need to. The Eagles and Redskins show that you can't buy a dream team. You draft one as we do.

Yeah but 4th round picks are always more dicey so If we let him walk I wouldnt mind. keep in mind we traded for him before torrey came on big when they thought his confidence was shot. I want to see more of laqaun williams and doss next year and really push them in OTA's.

Yup, thank god we have the best people in charge of drafting. I would probably be real worried if I didnt have the security of knowing that.

Okay, I admit I don't understand all this salary cap stuff...so I am going to ask a stupid question...what happens to the UFA's? Did they just go "poof"? lol

they enter a Free agent pool where any team can bid on them and the player decides where he wants to go. Normally to what team pays the most, normally. They arent under contract to any team until they sign a new contract. Obviously they dont count against our cap (grubbs rice) because they dont hve a contract with us, where not paying them

Thanks, I got that part, lol Maybe I should have been clearer in my question. Will there be any money to re-sign any of the UFA's if we were to chose to do so? It wouldn't appear to be so looking at this.

maybe to get some. we will have enough for rice and some of the depth guys such as naka, maybe zibi, etc, probably one of jj or redding, possibly grubbs, but then there wouldnt be much room to sign FAs if we wanted to

The only one I would fight a little to keep is Redding if we could get him at about 1.5- 2 mil a year. I do want to see McPhee start but Redding would be good depth and we know he is a capable starter.

Yes, Birk is going to be a FA. There's no additional Cap space if he's not retained.

Given the size of Flacco's expected deal, it's kind of hard to say, because there are so many ways it could be structured.

That said, they could create up to $2.5-3M in Cap space if it's structured to be cap-friendly for 2012.

Draft good and keep our own players while cutting expensive vets in favor of young players. We did it last year with success. Keep the youth movement going!!!!!! I would like to see Doss, Kruger, Art Jones, J Smith and promising rookies to step up. That will save us save us some $$$ a and build our team while competing for a championship.

True. Could probably find another FA or draft a back up. I'm not sure but I think we still need to get a back up for Cody. I see us picking up atleast 1 decent FA d lineman.

No one has mentioned our free agent safeties or McClain. Both of our safeties are free agents after next year and our back ups are free agents now... and I would prefer to keep McClain after reading what Mayock said about Burfict.

no way they gonna let McClain go. unlike a few guys on this forum our coaches know very well that he is a very good MLB. they put a lot of work in him and they liked what he did when ray was down. they said it during the season that he will be here for a long time.

he will be the man in the middle when ray is gone. he will nowhere near the next ray lewis. but there isn´t a next ray lewis in the nfl. i cannot see any of the mlbs being the next ray. willis is the closest to ray but even he is a step behind. ray means much more for our franchise than being just a player....

there was this article on nfl.com about the cap situation next season and if i understand it correctly there will be more cap space due to a new TV contract (or any other contract). so there is a possibility to structure the contracts in a way that we can resign any of our players...

It would help if we drafted players with the potential to become starters instead of kick returners and special teams linebackers.
