I'm quoting you, because this is a common response...

The free agency in the forum draft reminded me of another player who did exactly what Oher did (play RT his rookie year, moved to left the next, and then moved back to right in year 3) -- Jordan Gross. He had no problems, so why can't Oher do it (if the moves really affect him the way people say)?

It's more than a weight thing, someone taller like Reid has longer levers and better length for tackle duty than Oher, but he just doesn't have Ohers foot speed. Also you don't really want anyone over 6'4" playing inside as leverage becomes an issue, you see it sometimes with Matt Birk and even an elite guard like Carl Nicks.

So you're saying that maybe neither of them would be able to make the move to guard? Just curious, because ideally I'd like to see Oher at guard and Reid at tackle if we don't resign Grubbs (which is what I really want to happen, bringing Grubbs back at a reasonable price). Right now, I feel like we have 2 guys who could play right tackle, a stop-gap left tackle in Brandon McKinney, and the possibility of both Grubbs and Birk gone by 2013. That's three big holes on the o-line, and two guys who may be able to play one spot, but not one of the 3 spots we need to fill (unless you think Oher can be a left tackle). What would you do?

I would love to see Oher at guard. I happen to think he'd play quite well there.

Maybe so, but if we move him to a new position he will definitely bolt in FA next year.

Patriots Matt Light and the Pathers Jordan Gross are shorter than "ideal" and Bengals LT Andrew Whitworth has slow feet, but they compensate with perfect technique and by playing smart. So while neither Oher or Reid have the "ideal" physical tools for tackle but that doesn't mean they can't compensate to become elite at the position (Oher however, does have the physical tools you want in a guard).

Personally I'd enquire about Pats LT/RT Sebastian Vollmer who is in his last year, or any final year tackle who is quick enough for zone blocking.

Oher has the strength for a guard. He seems to struggle with speed pass rushers. I will say that Oher is overrated to say the least. He needs to work on his timing, if I see another false start from him I will break my TV
