Back Up Quarterback

34 posts in this topic

I know Tyler is the number two guy but do you think it would be wise to bring in a veteran back up for very little money of course? I know David G is out there but he would perfer to start which WILL not happen in baltimore

No, Tyrod Taylor is more than fine. The coaches had enough confidence for him to be the only back-up all of 2011, you'd think he would only improve from his rookie season.

If any QB moves will be made, it'll be to pick up some one on the practice squad - someone none of us has ever heard of.

I'd rather we stick with Tyrod unless we get a 1st round pick for him from another team trying to trade for him. The likelihood of that happening reflects my opinions on getting anyone else.

Now, if Tyrod gets injured and goes on IR, then we probably should sign a vet.

Yeah, it sucks the Raiders don't have any 1st round picks. :(

Don't they have, like, 4 QBs? What's another one going to hurt? After all, Palmer is their future per that one Raiders fan. He also said they could always use Pryor as a WR. Maybe with that logic they could always use Taylor as a RB.

Yeah, Palmer, Campbell, Pryor, and Boller. I could see Campbell going back to Washington, though.

If Flacco goes down, we can do just fine with Tyrod. We need to put money on the line and in retaining our homegrown guys.

Cambell is a free agent... if he was smart he would try to go to somewhere like Miami if they don't get Manning... I would steer clear of every going near or back to the Redskins. There is going to be a lot of qb available either by draft or free agent this year and next. I am hoping that we can use that as an advantage in ext talks to Flacco so we don't break the bank and lose out on signing others.

exactly! Tyrod is a beast and he is more than capable of being Joe's backup! Cam needs to script in some pakages that gets him on the field (perhaps with Joe out there as well) from time to time to keep the defense guessing!

everybody has a thing for the back up QB haha, Joe Flacco is the man so the 2nd guy doesnt really matter, Joe seems durable

Has Joe even missed a snap?

In season I think I remember Tyrod having a series or two at the end of a large win.
I dunno, maybe I am thinking about pre season but I dont think I am wrong on this.

If the front office is comfortable with Tyrod, there's no need to look for anyone else. Even with a lockout and Tyrod not having a full offseason, they thought he was the best option to back up Joe. Now with a complete offseason under his belt, he should be even better next year. I would love to see some wildcat stuff worked in though. If we have a guy like Tyrod, why not work him into the game as a HB or a receiver at some point - or better yet, Taylor to Flacco for a TD.

HAAAAAAA!!! Is he still with Carrie Prejean?

They're married. Imagine her in the stands at every home game.

Tylor will be a backup QB. He is the best option for a backup for us.

Honestly, we have no money for another verteran QB. If we do have extra money, i'd rather use those to lock up Grubbs/Webb/Ray Rice.

Team & FO are cool with Tyrod then so am I. But, if we can bring back Boller then we should most definitely do that. I fear he's a bit out of our price range though.

I appreciate the concern, lol...

Joe isnt a guy who gets hurt easily. And even if he did, we are pretty much screwed anyway unless our backup is Matt Ryan.

The noodle-armed checkdown artist? I don't want any part of it. Take him out of Atlanta and replace Roddy White and Julio Jones with Anquan Boldin and Torrey Smith. Cam is now his OC. Oh, and btw, now he doesn't play like 9 guaranteed games a year in a dome, and another 2 in warm weather spots. In the winter in Pittsburgh or Cinci or Cleveland? Don't want to think about what his numbers would look like.

I've seen a lot of mock drafts with us taking Brandon Weeden in the 3rd. I thought it was interested considering he's 28 and we have Flacco as our starter. If we were to draft a QB, why wouldn't we take a younger one?

Not advocating Weeden at all, just thought it was interesting that QB is pegged as one of our "needs"

Brandon Weeden is good, I think he'll be gone before the 3rd. And we have needs elsewhere

But hey, if he's around in the fifth, I've no issue with picking up a third QB, he'd be a good addition to the squad
