There was speculation that the Patriots, before the draft, were seriously considering signing Wallace. The logic was that he's much better than any reciever they could have gotten at pick #31, so they'd really be only giving up one (probably late) first round pick, in a manner of thinking. If you were the Green Bay Packers, wouldn't you trade for Ray Rice, for two #30 first round picks?

Yet NO NFL player was deemed worthy of being signed by other teams, yet every RFA has been signed (except for Wallace) by their original team. Fishy.

For example (hypothetically), let's examine the #30 and #31 players drafted this year - RB Doug Martin (TB) and WR A.J. Jenkins (SF) - if it cost a team two (late round) 1st rounders, wouldn't you trade Martin and Jenkins for Ray Rice? for Mike Wallace?

I just think something is fishy - everyone agreed NOT to sign other teams' RFAs, IMO...

I am not a conspiracy theory guy, but I think you may be on to something. I thought that one team would at least try to make a play for one of the RFA's and the fact that not one even tried is very strange. With all the picks and cap space the Patriots had, I thought why not make a play for Wallace? Maybe the NFL owners consider it rude to strip players from other teams in this manner and there is some gentlemen's agreement that no one wants to break and risk being "shunned."

Good point, IF it wasn't the Patriots.

Last month, the Giants put (injured) TE Jake Ballard on "waivers" - which, being injured, he'd normally pass through - with the plan being to put him on season-ending IR, if he passed through waivers.

The Ravens have done this the last 2 seasons with Mike McAdoo, who's been injured in TC - and no one has claimed him.

Like you said, an unwritten "rule" by teams that any team trying to keep an injured player without having to stash him on the active 53... and the Patriots screwed the Giants by claiming Ballard.

For the record, the Giants said it was fine, it was within the rules, it wasn't personal... but - yes, Bill Belicheck - violated the unwritten rule, allowing teams to stash injured players.

So... if the Patriots could have signed Wallace for 2 (late-round) 1st round picks... they would have. I'm certain Belicheck wouldn't have stopped, because of a gentlemen's agreement... cuz he's not much of a gentleman! ;)

Well to be honest, for who the Patriots got in the first, I don't think BB regrets not going after Mike Wallace. I mean Hightower and Chandler Jones are solid picks for them. The Bengals should have used their second first round pick on Wallace, at least he would have been better value than Kevin Zeitler. If the 49ers wanted a receiver, they should have used it on Mike Wallace instead of reaching for AJ Jenkins.

Looks like our AFC North Rivals are having themselves some trouble with Training Camp starting, first it was the Bengals(see other thread) and now the Mike Wallace holdout is officially on. Mike did not report to Training Camp when Steelers opened up camp. According to Adam Schefter, the Steelers have broken off talks of a new contract until Wallace reports to camp.

This could get ugly for the Steelers......

Yes and I think this is. The good news for the Steelers is that their injured RB's coach is back. I was really praying hard for that poor guy. What a true blessing!

Not ugly anymore. Steelers signed Antonio Brown. They will not sign Wallace this year.

I'm getting my popcorn ready now. Steelers have a standoff going on with Wallace and instead give Brown a nice long-term deal. All hopes of a deal getting done with Wallace now are slim.

Wallace might not be a Steeler next year.

Report: Mike Wallace wants Vincent Jackson money, not Fitzgerald money.
[background=transparent]According to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, unsigned restricted free agent Mike Wallace is seeking a contract similar to Vincent Jackson's in Tampa Bay.[/background]
Jackson's deal was 5 years, $55.5 Million.

While Big Ben may have talked to Mike Wallace, Steelers GM Kevin Colbert says he hasn't talked to him and that there has been no contact with WR Mike Wallace and says that there will be no talk until Wallace reports and signs his tender.
“Yeah there’s really no contact. Mike knows where things stand. The next step for him really is to report and to sign his tender, and until that happens, there won’t be anything else,” Colbert said. “And if that happens, nobody knows where it will go from there. So that’s where it is and has been, and hopefully it comes to an end sooner rather than later because it will be good for us, but it will also be good for Mike.”

As mentioned earlier... I'd rather nobody gave the steelers a 1st rounder which would help them replace a player they lost. With proper help over top, Wallace can be shut down. Even with the cap going up, the steelers will continue to struggle with the cap with all the restructuring and younger players having contracts ending soon.

Which we have done many times now. I agree with you wholeheartedly. Do not provide aide and comfort to the enemy!!!

Brown looks good when Wallace on the field; although Brown has better running route, he won't be as effective when no other threat opposite him to take the pressure off him......

The Steelers are hoping Emmanuel Sanders can be that guy if Wallace doesnt report. He hasnt been healthy, but Sanders has looked pretty good at times.

The Steelers have turned down trade offers that they have received for Mike Wallace. The Steelers expect Wallace to report in a couple weeks.

He can't play hardball against the Steelers FO cuz he knows they will let him go in a heartbeat if he goes against their rules....

I thought he'd make more dramatic chaos on the media, but he has no <desire> to do so.....lol

Yeah and get this... Jim Irsay tweeted that the Colts are ready to give up a high draft pick for SERIOUS(and even in the tweet he capitalized serious) vet/starter. He also said that his check book is ready. So is it a coincidence that Wallace is reporting to camp when the Colts are about to trade for someone and give up a high draft pick, which would be exactly what they have to give up to get Wallace.

Wow, no I did not hear that. That is indeed big news. I think Wallace could possibly be a good fit with the Colts and maybe worthy of a high draft pick.

I don't think a trade will happen...But also, something noteworthy about this is that Bruce Arians is the OC, he might be somewhat behind it...
