Why would you want to give your rival a first round pick, and help them for down the road?
Im not saying Im an advocate for grabbing Wallace, but the Steelers losing him certainly isn't "help(ing) them for down the road".

It has been confirmed that the Steelers will place a first round tender on Mike Wallace opposed to the Franchise Tag.

So now that a 1st Round Tender has been put on Wallace, which team will be willing to give up a first round pick for Wallace? I still say 49ers do it but this is also a move I can see the Patriots making as well. Also to note that the first round tender guarantees Wallace $2.7 Million.

I do not see any teams giving up their first round pick. Especially these two teams because they have the cap space to bring in a big name WR. I don't see the point of them bringing Wallace and losing a pick when they can just get an URFA.

the patriots will give away one of their first rounders, i really can see that happening, they lack downfield threats and Ochocinco will likely get cut as he never seemed to get what this offense was all about

Just curious, for example if the pats decide to give wallace a contract does he have to sign it or can he just say that thats not the contract he is looking for and stay with the steelers?

I said this earlier, but the Bears are DESPERATE for a WR. They might have a shot at Michael Floyd, but I think they would take a hard look at Wallace, even if it means giving up their first round pick.

They might lose a pick, but Wallace is the best deep threat 'available', is younger than the URFAs and is baggage free. The Patriots would complete their receiving corps if they gave up a pick for him, then they could draft defense for pretty much the rest of the draft. Sounds like a good idea to me.

No then the Steelers have to match it or risk losing him and getting a 1st round pick for him.

Wallace has a CHOICE as to what team he signs with. If the Ravens offer him $12 Mill or the Pats and he doesnt want to play for them, then he just would not sign the offer sheet to that team. He gets to choose what team he wants to play for.

I just couldnt see it...after all the rivalrys I feel like it would be wierd...I feel like Wallace wouldnt even like being on our team...and I think Torrey will get just as good as wallace...not as fast but he will be a better route runner and has already become a reliable target for Flacco.

And we would have to outpay the Squeelers and they are apparently ready to use everything they got left in cap space on Wallace in a last ditch effort to try and keep him so I would rather save money and grab a cheaper option via the draft

As mentioned earlier... I'd rather nobody gave the steelers a 1st rounder which would help them replace a player they lost. With proper help over top, Wallace can be shut down. Even with the cap going up, the steelers will continue to struggle with the cap with all the restructuring and younger players having contracts ending soon.

Update! Apparently per Rotoworld, Mike Wallace wants to be one of the highest paid WRs in the NFL. Not sure if this IS true (I always question sources), but this sounds about right for his character. It is also one of the craziest things I have read.

It's a shame for Wallace the Redskins already got all their guys & don't have a 1st. Oh well.
Citing a league source, the Sacramento Bee reports that restricted free agent Mike Wallace is searching for a long-term contract in excess of the eight-year, $120 million deal signed by Larry Fitzgerald last August.
The Bee's Matt Barrows has been tracking the situation because the team he covers -- the 49ers -- made an inquiry about signing Wallace to an offer sheet. It's not happening if he insists on becoming one of the top three highest paid receivers in football. (Calvin Johnson and Fitzgerald are Nos. 1 and 2.) Wallace may still leave Pittsburgh if his asking price comes down, but the Steelers couldn't sign him, either, on that lofty of a demand.

if this is true no point offering a 1st for him, the steelers wont resign him next year, and if you have money you may as well wait

Exactly... why give up a 1st Round pick when there's no way the Steelers could afford to bring him back next year anyway... although they're pretty good at massaging the cap, so anything's possible.

This is why I dislike Wallace. Arrogant & narcissistic guy who has an inflated sense of self worth. He is not Larry Fitzgerald nor Megatron. He is probably closer to a Brandon Marshall or Santonio Holmes.

I smell conspiracy. Steelers told Mike Wallace to demand a bunch of money so that nobody would offer him a contract that way they can keep him. Mike Wallace demands a bunch of money and now Pittsburgh gets to keep him. Watch him re-sign with Pittsburgh for less money(whenever they get the cap room) after saying all this about wanting Fitz money.

Cheap..lol.. It should be cheap cuz Webb shut him down every time they play against each other, and that's when Webb isn't even reached his prime yet.

It looks like conspiracy going on but with Wallace's arrogant attitude, I'll be surprised if he agrees on Brandon Marshall's money.....

PS: Webb's One handed interception catch on Brady's ball to Welker just forever stone prints in my head.....Webb and Jimmy combo is going to be the face of the Ravens secondary defense....

Teams aren't scared off by alleged "demands" by athletes. He even posted on his Twitter account to not believe everything you hear. He knows better than to make those kinds of ridiculous statements... I think?

Rooney to wallace coversation

Rooney: Im sorry Mike we just cant pay you that much

Wallace: but I can run faster than everyone else

Rooney: can you do anything else?

Wallace: yeah, I can run faster then everyone

Rooney: Maybe when you do something against the Ravens we can talk a big contract.

Until Wallace can take over a game... He shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence with Calvin or fitz. As mentioned, Webb shut him down (which is why I want Webb signed). There's plenty of fast receivers every draft but corners that take them out the game are harder to find.

Interest in Mike Wallace has dried up according to PFT.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/04/06/interest-in-mike-wallace-appears-to-have-dried-up/

This sucks... I was hoping some team would have gave up a first for him. I mean Wallace is only 25 so he'll give you the same 10 years of play as any other rookie WR in this draft. Surprised Denver didn't try to go after him, and very surprised the 49ers preferred Randy Moss and signing Mario Manningham over giving up their first round pick for Mike Wallace. Well teams have until April 20th to make an offer for him so we'll see if some team makes a run for him.

He fell off the map the entire second half of last year. He's not even a top 15 WR. Like Webb said, Brown is better.

I want to see how Brown responds when he's placed to play #1 spot cuz Mike was double teamed most of the time although route running ability Brown is abit better than Mike but speed wise, Mike is a notch better than him. I just don't like the attitude of Mike though: pretty cocky.

PS: best to compare the two is put Webb on both and see which one has more yardage, but Webb might ruin the competition when he shuts them both down with 0 yardage..lol
