I just found this and thought it might be something interesting to point out. So far 2 out the 3 rookie RBs we've faced this season have ended up on the IR, I'm not sure if Ray was directly involved in tackling Mike Hart, but I think it just goes to show how hard our defense can play the run and pop the RBs really hard.

I'm not wishing injury on anyone or celebrating that fact that a rookie had his first season cut short, but you have to think that most RBs think about something like this when they see they're supposed to play the Ravens that week ;)

I thought I remembered him being hurt after getting a little 4-yard run late in the game . . . maybe I'm miss remembering it.

I believe he was hurt after making a reception on a short swing pass to the flat, and was basically whipped around out-of-bounds.

I remember thinking it was a pretty violent tackle, and borderline unnecessary roughness call, except the momentum of the tackle was what brought the players out of bounds to begin with.

Is it just me or do injuries seem to increase over the years for the entire NFL. It seems like players are getting injured left and right for the season more than lets say 10 years ago.

Not sure if that's true, but it seems so. How ironic that it seems to follow the same pattern as the new rules put in place to "protect" the players. Although, there's probably no connection.

Maybe there is more emphasis on reporting injuries compared to the past. Or maybe players are less likely to tough out injuries to prolong their careers. Or, maybe there is less emphasis on conditioning. OR maybe the stars are not properly aligned... what do I know

I would think, in some ways, advancement in medical technology have raised the number of injuries because teams are able to detect more of the little things and what would have been put down as nothing years ago is now put on the injury report and treated and sometimes keeps players out of the game that in years past they would have tried to play through. (Then they go and play badly and get criticized for their bad play  )

Plus players are getting bigger and faster, so they hit harder and things are tweaked and bent harder than years ago as well.

I think there's been more of a rash of knee injuries than in the past, this season. Especially to star players.

Tom Brady, Shawne Merriman, Peyton Manning, Jeff Saturday, Willie Parker, Bob Sanders, Willis McGahee, among others.

Granted, knee injuries in football are about as common as touchdowns, especially given how much usage players get out of their knees, but the trend is a bit troubling. A lot of men may have trouble walking when they get older, especially if they're rushed back to the field.

No matter how much of a beast a rookie is coming out of college, it takes a year with the NFL trainers and Nutritionist to add the muscle mass they need to protect themselves.

You make a good point about medical technology. They are able to find slight tears easier than they would 20 years ago. They use to shoot a guy up with a cortizone shot and let the guy play. Nowadays there is a lot more liability and ethics involved in football medical staffs.

But I also think that there are a lot more players who believe they are naturally conditioned to play football based on talent, which makes off-season conditioning not a priority.

Plus you add the advancement of training for specialized positions. Which increases harder hits etc. We end up with more serious injuries that take guys out for a year.

Every year it seems like there are more injuries then before, but I think this year it isjust happening to the face of teams, and really key players (Brady, Manning pre season, Parker etc) So it has made a huge impact on the games this year. If matt cassel was hurt in the preseason and put on IR it wouldnt have been as noticed. So i think also when key players go down, we seem to pay more attention. So it might not be more injuries, but just more injuries to key players

True but the refs would think that we want to cheap-shot the key players and make them sit to get an advantage. Hey, i know that's low, and we dont roll that way, but look at the Pats last year...who expected them to cheat? lol

When conditioning for an athletic sport, joints and ball sockets can not strenghten(surrounding muscles) as fast as larger muscle tissues. Just like in a car, the power will show the weakest link pretty fast!
