Ehh I don't see that just from what I see of the "system" ... I think Ricky just knows the business and can obviously see the talent that Rice has

If the deal gets done soon, then I think there's a chance it won't be that expensive and may save us some money. The longer it takes the more I worry about it being expensive. Rice has constantly said that he didn't want to involve the team in the discussions, he wanted to play last year and wait until the offseason to discuss contracts. He did everything he said he would do. He said he wants to remain with the Ravens. He seems pretty team-oriented. Hopefully he takes a contract that will satisfy him and his teammates, because without that line blocking he can't make those crazy runs.

How much you guys think his contract will be? Any guesses?

Sorry guys, I will be the first to say that it will not be a smart business decision to extend him and give a huge contract. Tag him and then go from there. RB's are way to expendable and can be had for far less. Probably the easiest position to replace in football. RR is a great talent but he is going to be looking for top RB money which is a huge amount to be paying for the next couple years. We really will have to let a couple of our good players go in the future if we give him a boat load.

I'll be the first to counter and say he's been one of the most productive backs over the past three years and is the biggest weapon this offense has, one of the best in the NFL. A 4-5 year deal is perfect and I don't think we'll be breaking the bank on it.

On top of what berad said, Lewis and Reed's eventual retirement will clear up a considerable amount of cap space, more than enough to account for this.

I am not understating the importance that he has on this team. I guess I am coming from the business end of the deal. Follow me here but it almost sucks for the Ravens that he has been so great. With the RB position you really don't need a great back because a wide margin can be an adequate to good back. With those backs you can still win the Super Bowl. Patriots have done it, Giants, Saints, Colts. So RR has forced the hand of the Ravens and he will probably get $10 Mill a year when, I believe, we could be just as good if not better with just a good RB and being able to strengthen our team in other areas.

That's not what the Ravens are - the believe in a strong running game. If you don't know what he does for the offense, you haven't been watching the Ravens too long. Elite dual threat, he'll be paid but he deserves it. He does more for the offense than anyone else on the FA market would be able to. Plus, it's always nice when he rips up the Steelers.

???? No where in my post did I say that someone was better than Ray Rice. So I don't understand your question.

You're coming from a flawed line of thinking that all rb's are replaceable which is not true. If that were the case, then KC shoulda been fine this year when they lost charles. Instead we saw what happened. There are some backs that are so talented that they enhance an offense considerably on their own.

Rice had 2000 yards this season (1300+ rushing, 700+ receiving). Flacco threw for like 3500 yards I believe

so that means 2000+/4800 total offensive yards. Thats roughly 41% of the offense going through him. Now let's say we get a great rb out of the draft who has a 1000 yard season and lets say he has 300 receiving yards. We will use the same passing stats

1300/4800 = 27%. So we lose roughly 15% of our offense without rice. Ppl complain about our offense being inconsistent this year, how much better do you think it will be after seeing something like this?

Explain this instead of just Being general.. Who could we sign to take his place?
How would that benefit us as a whole?
And what could we do with the leftover money to help the team be "better"

My logic is not flawed. KC had an over the hill Thomas Jones as the backup. He was not adequate or good. How many times in this league have we seen the top RB go down just to see their backups come in and blow it up? The RB position is the easiest position on the field. You get the ball and hit the hole. Many guys can be good RB's. I am sorry but at the end of the day it is an opinion and just that. I believe that it is not wise to spend so much on a RB. I may not be right.
