This thread makes no sense. Lynch is an obvious starting back, the same role that Rice plays. It's like what someone else said about we might as well sign Drew Brees to be Flacco's backup

I still don't understand why McClain thought he was a halfback, and why so many fans were lobbying for him to be the back up last offseason..... Here's how I feel McClain doesn't even average 4.0 ypc, even his best season in 08 running behind Lorenzo Neal he averaged under 4ypc. Plenty of times he failed to get the tough 1 r 2 yd gain for first down....
He chose to leave Baltimore to get more carries and got even less playing time lol.... I feel like the McClain train is already gone we have a real FB now.

Yeah I think there would be better candidates for a backup RB role than Le'Ron McClain but he would probably fit the Ravens payroll needs better than most and he is familiar with the Ravens offense already. And this time his around (if it happened) his role would be clearly defined.

McClain... Interesting thought. I really just want to see what Allen and Berry can do, but McClain would be a good power runner. We could run some cool jumbo packages with him and Leach in the backfield, both blocking for Rice, or even McClain running behind Leach. If he could get down to about 240, I wouldn't be opposed to it. We could use him like a H-back, like how the 49ers use Bruce Miller. I wouldn't mind either way. Of course, he better come cheap, if he comes at all. And I mean CHEAP.

I also am hoping that Allen or Berry can assume this role instead of having to bring someone in from the outside but at least if they brought Le'Ron McClain in to do it, he already knows this offense.

More realistic options for a free agent backup RB could be:

Ronnie brown
Mike Tolbert
Jason Snelling
Earnest graham
Cadillac Williams
Chester Taylor

haha i like Williams the best out of this list,
but most likely, due to injury reasons, we'll sign Taylor or Snelling

i mean, if saving money is what we want, get Ngata to tote the rock, behind Mount Cody

I like the tank...tolbert. Built to be a goalline back. Runs with an attitude

I think people are discounting what Damien Berry and Anthony Allen can do. Ricky had barely over 100 rushing attempts this season. Berry and Allen could easily get that together.

I would rather sign Brandon Jacobs than Marshall Lynch. I am not joking.

Brandon Jacobs hasn't been effective since the Giants' first Super Bowl run.

Lol, he's also not a free agent. I was actually joking. I really don't want Marshall Lynch. He had a really good year, but where has he been for the past couple years? I haven't seen him play like this until his contract year. Then again, I don't watch too many Seahawks games.

I just don't want to go with him because I haven't seen consistency or heard of any consistency from him. I heard he was lazy before this year. Not sure how true it is since again, I don't watch Seahawks games.

For the record, though...I really like Jacobs' style of running even better than Bradshaw. I honestly felt like he ran better than Bradshaw at certain points. That's neither here nor there, though. Don't want to go too off-topic here.

Marshawn Lynch is absolutely GREAT, but telling me that he'll settle for being a backup is well, not true. You might as well tell me that we'll all stop breathing in 10 seconds. Plus, Lynch is the Seahawks premier running back. No letting him go there.

Lynch is a big physical RB and I've always liked him but he's not at the point in his career where he is looking for back up role money, this guy wants to get paid

Agree with everybody else here that he'd be too expensive with already having Rice paid. Sure it's a nice fantasy. I think if we resign Grubbs and bring in a new center our running game will be more consistant next year and Allen or whoever we bring in will be just fine.

wouldn't be a great addition if we add Marshawn lynch in free agency, a proving veteran and very physical back that we need.
I guess if we couldn't sign Rice then Lynch would make a great addition for a few years. Still, I'm not so sure that last year wasn't a career year for him and he will drop off again after he gets a big contract. There are other cheaper backups out there, not to mention Allen who deserves a chance to prove himself.
