What's the Wallace book you're looking at about? I know a fair bit about his work.
I just looked it up. A friend of mine told me to read Infinite Jest. I'm told that it's satirical, which grabs my interest. I love satire.

The Pale King is excellent, too. It's about the IRS.

You should John Updike, then. Might I suggest S?

Soon enough! I already have a long list of books to read, so any suggestions are going to be read a while from now. I'll definitely keep it in mind though!

Fitzgerald, Twain, Larsson, Doyle and Poe: eclectic mix! flaccopoe especially approves of the last selection! :ravensquote: I hope you've read The Great Gatsby, it'll give you a good fell for if you'll like his style.

My high school deprived me of reading the classics, so I'm going through them now. I'm excited to get to Twain and Fitzgerald, particularly
.
The Great Gatsby is one of my favorite books.

The movie never really struck a chord with me, though I liked the movie a lot. Anyway, bon voyage, bookworm!

Currently reading Whirl Away it is a book by a Canadian author - I just started and it is a bunch of short stories about people whose lives 'whirl away' or become unsettled. Normally not the type of book that I am drawn to but the author does a great job of pulling you in and feeling the emotion in such a quick piece.

If you're into books with intertwining short stories, then might I suggest the latest book I just picked up by M.T. Johnson called "Newspaper Diapers". It takes place in Vietnam, talking about the hardships & poverty of the people. Some portions actually had my heart dropping. Makes you appreciate the little things, that's for sure.

In North Vietnam, South Vietnam or both? Or does this take place in contemporary Vietnam?

I do warn people though, some parts of the book are graphic. This book isn't going to make you "feel good" after reading it.

It's important to be aware of the suffering around us. In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., here are some of his quotes:

[background=rgb(219, 218, 241)]"History will have to record that the greatest tragedy of this period of social transition was not the strident clamor of the bad people, but the appalling silence of the good people."[/background]
[background=rgb(219, 218, 241)]"He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetrate it."[/background]

It's a far cry from Harry Potter. A lot more vulgar, for one. Brilliant, but don't read it if you're expecting it to be a Harry Potter-esque book. It really is brilliant though.

Dead of Night. Fantastic zombie story. As ultimate punishment for serial killing, a doctor devises an execution injection that kills the body, yet keeps brain function working so the killer feels his body rot in the grave.

Except he never gets buried, and of course catastrophe ensues.

On my down time, I'm reading Kill Bin Laden by Dalton Fury, but since the semester's started, I'll be reading a book or two about Dante's Inferno and also the war zones of Iraq and Chechnya for an upper-level Arabic class.

keep with the books ON Dantes Inferno. Good lord, the actual book is a nightmare to try and really understand.

Trying to interpret 14th century imagery while keeping up with the story is not easy.
