Sort of. Its very dark. And she puts a lot of twists on classic creatures of the night. Her description of an under the bridge troll literally made me nauseous. Its fantastic. The main character deals with a lot of emotional baggage, particularly a fear to get to close to anyone, especially women because he doesnt want to bring another horrible half human monster into the world. I very much reccomend it. Her Chimaera series is great too. And yes Rob is a female.

Rob Thurman is an excellent writer. I used to really like those books. They're kind of like Hardy boys crossed with Supernatural, but better.

Unfortunately, I had to give them up after the gratuitious profanity (and other things) became too much for me. :(

Finally finished The Hunger Games series. I need a hug.
A pretty sobering series, I know. Many less fortunate people live out The Hunger Games in real life...

Indeed. I loved the series. Truly great!

It's one of those books that makes you think. It asks more questions than it answers. It makes statements. It's great.

Probably Catching Fire. Parts of Mockingjay were really repetitive and somewhat predictable, in my opinion. Of course, there were a few events which came out of nowhere, but I feel like there were parts that were overdone.

I am not technically reading it but I'm listening to it on Audible. It's called Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. If you love video games and the 80's you'll like the book IMO.

From the website:

At once wildly original and stuffed with irresistible nostalgia, READY PLAYER ONE is a spectacularly genre-busting, ambitious, and charming debut—part quest novel, part love story, and part virtual space opera set in a universe where spell-slinging mages battle giant Japanese robots, entire planets are inspired by Blade Runner, and flying DeLoreans achieve light speed.
It’s the year 2044, and the real world is an ugly place.

Like most of humanity, Wade Watts escapes his grim surroundings by spending his waking hours jacked into the OASIS, a sprawling virtual utopia that lets you be anything you want to be, a place where you can live and play and fall in love on any of ten thousand planets.

And like most of humanity, Wade dreams of being the one to discover the ultimate lottery ticket that lies concealed within this virtual world. For somewhere inside this giant networked playground, OASIS creator James Halliday has hidden a series of fiendish puzzles that will yield massive fortune—and remarkable power—to whoever can unlock them.

For years, millions have struggled fruitlessly to attain this prize, knowing only that Halliday’s riddles are based in the pop culture he loved—that of the late twentieth century. And for years, millions have found in this quest another means of escape, retreating into happy, obsessive study of Halliday’s icons. Like many of his contemporaries, Wade is as comfortable debating the finer points of John Hughes’s oeuvre, playing Pac-Man, or reciting Devo lyrics as he is scrounging power to run his OASIS rig.

And then Wade stumbles upon the first puzzle.

Suddenly the whole world is watching, and thousands of competitors join the hunt—among them certain powerful players who are willing to commit very real murder to beat Wade to this prize. Now the only way for Wade to survive and preserve everything he knows is to win. But to do so, he may have to leave behind his oh-so-perfect virtual existence and face up to life—and love—in the real world he’s always been so desperate to escape.

A world at stake.

A quest for the ultimate prize.

The tv series was awful. They ruined the plot and they changed the characters drastically. They made Bob and old man, but in the books he is a Spirit of Air that lives inside a skull. Dont judge the books based on the tv show cause the books are amazing.

You should read them. They are very enjoyable, and the main character is hilarious. He has a habit of making fun of things that could flatten him and he's a major smart [profanity deleted].

I am reading John Muir's The Yosemite..this particular edition was put together by the late great Galen Rowell back in 1990 to honor the 100th anniversary of the creation of Yosemite National Park.. It has Muir's text and Rowell's photography.

I have a feeling this will make me cry. I miss Yosemite so much!

I have heard of Cut and I would like to read it eventually. Trying to get through Casual Vacancy, This Side of Paradise, and quite a few others first.

So far, I do like Casual Vacancy. It's really wordy and almost overly descriptive, but it's a pretty good story so far. Though at times it feels like Rowling is just showing off her talent in writing and vocabulary.

Haven't read This Side of Paradise yet so I couldn't tell ya. All I know is that it's a longer story.

I don't know. I think the point of literature is open to the reader's mind. In my opinion, there comes a time where the author is just too wordy that it gets dry and uninteresting. According to my Intro to Lit professor last semester, the purpose of literature is to "Tell a story and make us feel the feelings." Yes, that is an actual quote from an actual college professor.

I may. I do want to read a certain book by David Foster Wallace but its name escapes me.

It's not really that I don't like excessively descriptive novels; they can just make for some tedious reading.
