Will someone please explain to me what is wrong with a man reading "Fifty Shades Of Grey"?

Yes, I get these books are aimed more towards a female audience and yes they contain some very graphic material -- but seriously, I'm not allowed to read THESE books without feeling like I'm stepping out of some kind of closet?

A bigger question is; how are they going to turn these books into a movie... *LOL*

Side note, a friend of mine told me that 50 Shades of Gray was originally Twilight fan-fiction.

I usually browse the Barnes & Nobles Coming Soon section for the projected "best sellers". For the month of January I was thinking of picking up "Y" by Marjorie Celona. Here's the preview:

“Y. That perfect letter. The wishbone, fork in the road, empty wineglass. The question we ask over and over. Why? . . . My life begins at the Y.” So opens Marjorie Celona’s highly acclaimed and exquisitely rendered debut about a wise-beyond-her-years foster child abandoned as a newborn on the doorstep of the local YMCA. Swaddled in a dirty gray sweatshirt with nothing but a Swiss Army knife tucked between her feet, little Shannon is discovered by a man who catches only a glimpse of her troubled mother as she disappears from view. That morning, all three lives are forever changed.

Bounced between foster homes, Shannon endures abuse and neglect until she finally finds stability with Miranda, a kind but no-nonsense single mother with a free-spirited daughter of her own. Yet Shannon defines life on her own terms, refusing to settle down, and never stops longing to uncover her roots—especially the stubborn question of why her mother would abandon her on the day she was born.

Brilliantly and hauntingly interwoven with Shannon’s story is the tale of her mother, Yula, a girl herself who is facing a desperate fate in the hours and days leading up to Shannon’s birth. As past and present converge, Y tells an unforgettable story of identity, inheritance, and, ultimately, forgiveness. Celona’s ravishingly beautiful novel offers a deeply affecting look at the choices we make and what it means to be a family, and it marks the debut of a magnificent new voice in contemporary fiction.

Another good option would be "The Last Runaway" by Tracy Chevalier. The book takes place in 1850, an English Quaker woman moves to Ohio and deals with the ongoing injustice of prejudice in the country at that time.

Currently reading Breakdown by Catherine Arnt Hanna. Basically Y2K happened due to cyber attacks and some kind of superflu plague broke out and killed most of the population. It started out with a brief time of what happens to the main character, Chris Price as the plague hit New York, then switches to his brother out in Bath, England several years later living on a farm and he goes into town and discovers Chris has just gotten there. However, I'm at the part where there is a flashback to Chris being in England, but hasn't reached Bath yet.

Christina Scotti reports from QVC headquarters in West Chester, Pennsylvania: a look the business behind it, how it affects the businesses that are featured on it -- and the all-important question: how do you get your business on QVC? It鈥檚 live 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It has 22,000 on-air guest appearances every year. It鈥檚 seen in more than 100 million homes in the U.S. and in a few hundred million across the globe. It鈥檚 a place where if you鈥檙e lucky enough to get on, you can give your business exposure that many entrepreneurs can only dream of -- and it鈥檚 all located in the small town of West Chester, Pennsylvania. Now, if you have a preconceived notion about the customer base and the items being sold on QVC, you may want to tune in because it鈥檚 surprisingly current, with guests like Jennifer Hudson and the Kardashians and brands from Apple to Ugg to Ralph Lauren. Last month, rap star and entrepreneur 50 Cent made news last month when he sold over $170,000 worth of headphones in just nine minutes. 鈥淲e think one of our biggest strengths is being a storyteller and being able to enable a brand to speak to what differentiate-sans manches Homme-s it in the marketplace,鈥?said Doug Rose, senior vice president for programming and marketing at QVC. He said it鈥檚 the channel鈥檚 ability to humanize a business that engages customers. And there is no denying that they are doing something right: With the exception of 2009 at the height of the recession, it鈥檚 seen positive growth since going on the air 26 years ago. It鈥檚 shipped over 160 million packages l-Moncler Gilet Enfant-ast year, and its global revenues were $8.3 billion. QVC is an empire that can give businesses exposure like nowhere else, but getting on the powerhouse channel is not easy. 鈥淚n addition to have a great story to tell, that鈥檚 not enough. We absolutely insist on every product that we offer going through a very stringent set of quality assurance standards,鈥?said Rose. 鈥淎nd it鈥檚 not just how the product performs and can we substantiate the claims that product is seeking to make. But also how it ships....鈥?Vice president of production Scott Crossin gave us a tour around the massive 58,000 square feet of space. He said their approach is rooted in what they call the 鈥渂ackyard fence鈥?approach; talking to the customer casually as if they were a neighbor. He also said with product prices ranging from $20 to $2,000, it鈥檚 all about giving the viewer variety.Alan Rosen, the co-founder of New York鈥檚 iconic Junior鈥檚 restaurant and its famous cheesecake, knows a lot about the exposure that QVC can bring in both direct sales and name recognition.鈥淲hen you鈥檙e on TV, you get the chance to tell the story. When people go into our stores or walk by, they don鈥檛 get the whole back story and history,鈥?he said. And what a history it is. Rosen鈥檚 grandfather started the company on election day in 1950 and Junior鈥檚, between Flatbush and Dekalb Avenues in Brooklyn became a New York institution. But Rosen said being on QVC took their st-Moncler Manteau Enfant-ory beyond its New York roots, transforming it into an internationally known business. 鈥淏ack in 1995, QVC was doing a search state by state for America鈥檚 best products,鈥?said Rosen. 鈥淲e showed up at the World Trade Center with six or seven hundred people and got selected as one of their 20 products to go on air. We went on for four or five minutes and sold 2,400 cheese cakes, which at the time was such a large amount for us.鈥滷ast forward seventeen years, it now sells an average of 150,000 cheesecakes on QVC every year and the company has exceeded $60 million in sales in 2012.Startup It Cosmetics made many unsuccessful attempts at getting their products on the channel.鈥淚 had been sending my products for a long time because I knew if I could show women how this works and show them live, it would be such a great platform for us,鈥?said Jamie Kern, founder of the four-year-old beauty line. 鈥淪o, I had sent them products for a few years and never got interest and then we were a cosmetics award ceremony with hundreds of brands. We had our concealer featured and鈥?we met [QVC producers] and that鈥檚 what got us the chance鈥?鈥漀ow Jamie Kern, who has made over 200 guest appearances since first going on the channel in 2010 is expanding to a new office after her company tripled in size with revenues going from $2 million before launching on QVC to more than $40 million since being featured. And still the big questions to business owners remain: What do you do to get on QVC? 鈥淪tart with passion which is rarely in short supply with entrepreneurs,鈥?said Rose. 鈥淏ut beyond that 鈥?realistically, we are looking for products that are not at the idea state. We need products that are in the production stage鈥ecause our businesses can ramp up very quickly here鈥?That鈥檚 the nice thing with QVC 鈥?if the customer is telling us that they鈥檙e liking this [product] and in particular if he or she is reordering it, we are very eager and quick to get on that reorder.鈥滱nd you realize after walking around this massive complex -- which feels like it鈥檚 own little world -- that needing to get that reorder fast is so important because satisfying the customer is at the heart of QVC鈥檚 business model, with 95% of all the revenues that they generate every year coming from people that buy with them more than once.鈥淚f all we鈥檝e done is convince someone to buy something, we鈥檝e failed,鈥?said Rose. 鈥淲e have to make sure that we鈥檝e delivered on the promise that we鈥檝e made and better yet, tell their friends鈥︹€?Follow Christina on Twitter
Theyre urban noir. Basically its 2 brothers, one of whom is half human and half monster, though completely human in appearance. They run a supernatural detective agency where they take on all kinds of odd jobs. There is an overarching plot that usuaully reveals itself when what seems like a simple job for them turns into so much more. The imagery is great, and the character development is fantastic. The plot is very edge of your seat, cant set it down cause you wanna know whats going on.

Sort of. Its very dark. And she puts a lot of twists on classic creatures of the night. Her description of an under the bridge troll literally made me nauseous. Its fantastic. The main character deals with a lot of emotional baggage, particularly a fear to get to close to anyone, especially women because he doesnt want to bring another horrible half human monster into the world. I very much reccomend it. Her Chimaera series is great too. And yes Rob is a female.
