Corey Taylor- Seven Deadly Sins: Settling the Argument Between Born Bad and Damaged Good

I love this book. Not only is it from my favorite musician, but it also is a good book that will open your eyes up to many things.

Is Prey by Michael Crichton?

That was a really good book. He also did one on time travel that was excellent. They travel back to, and get trapped in, Medieval times.

Just finished "Water for Elephants" great book. Did not expect to really enjoy it but the author did such a good job of jumping in and between times/lifespan and I found the circus crowd/life rather interesting. Would recommend

My grandma turned me onto that.  Plan on seeing the movie?

Okay, then I think I read Prey many moons ago. If it's the one with the chimp...

I'm always wary about the subject of time travel. It's weird though because all the books I've read that feature it, handled it quite well.

Do you guys ever borrow more books than you can possibly read in any reasonable amount of time?

I'm trying to read Neverwhere, Harry Potter 6, and Iron and Silk. And now I've just found out that my library has Jurassic Park (which I've somehow never read) just waiting for me to download on my kindle.

I enjoyed Jurassic Park.

I hope it's scary.

I keep thinking that this might be one of the rare cases in which the movie exceeds the book, but I'm going to give it a shot anyway.

I can't remember if Prey had a monkey in it. I don't think so. It was about man-made microscopic insect thingys.

Then that's not the book I thought it was. I'm thinking of a novel that had a chimp with human dna or something like that... Man, now I have to figure this out...

Edit: That wasn't so hard. I was thinking of Crichton's book NEXT.

My fears are being realized. Jurassic Park is not as good as the movie. Unfortunately, I'm more than halfway through the book so I feel obligated to finish it.

With what book?

A great book on the subject is Ishmael Beah's A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier.

Has anyone read Alive by Piers Paul-Read or Miracle in the Andies, by Nando Parrado? Both are true stories about the same horrible yet amazing event. In 1972, a plane full of Uruguayan rugby players and a few of their team's supporters crash-landed in the middle of the Andies in Argentina, on their way to a game in Chile. Stranded in the middle of nowhere, the young men use their faith in God (I'm not trying to spark a debate, it's just a critical point in the story.) and their desire to survive and return to their families to make it out alive, which, interestingly enough, is the title of one of the novels.

But to survive, the group must turn to what was once unthinkable: cannibalism. They must eat the bodies of their dead friends to stay alive, all the while telling themselves that they are now simply objects. And they face a challenge of equal proportions: a small group of them, bent, freezing, and severely nutrient-deprived, must walk out of the Andies, climb the mountains, and find help. To Read, this is an incredibly story about a group of young men and he had the honor to talk to people who were part of something so great. To Parrado, it is a memoir, because he himself was one of the survivors, and one of the ones who had to walk to find help. If you are ever bored and are looking for another book, both of these make great options. In 1992, a movie was even made based off of Read's account.

Well, I read yesterday that Chuck Palahniuk is coming out with a sequel to "Damned" called "Doomed".  It will be out the beginning of October this year.  I went ahead and put a copy on pre-order at the local book store.

Anything you'd recommend by him? I hear he's good, and I'd like to read some of his stuff once I finish the 20 or so books already on my list.

Fight Club

Invisible Monsters

Survivor

Choke

Interesting minimalist approach to titles. Is he in the thriller genre?

You could put it in that genre; I think of it more as "suspense".  I must forewarn you though, some of his stuff can get pretty graphic (ie, "Guts").  So, make sure you have a tough enough stomach.

Edit: "Guts" is one of the short stories that appears in "Haunted".

Let me put together a list of the details for each story and you can decide which ones you'd like to read. ;)

I just PM'ed you the details of each novel.

If anyone else would like them, let me know.  Some of the details are PG-13 at best, so I'd prefer to keep them in PMs.

Finally about to finish The Beautiful and Damned by Fitzgerald. It's finally getting good.

Why must he write such boring, tedious, and lengthy expositions?
