Developments in technology and the long-term effects they will have on the human race; his main term is Singularity, or the point where humans and robots will be unable to be differentiated. That's just scratching the surface of his material but it's definitely the focus.

His movie, Transcendent Man, is a good primer, you should check it out if what I said above sounds somewhat interesting

More the latter, though there is a lot of talk about robots becoming the more intelligent technology, so both are mentioned. But his mention of singularity tends to refer more to the latter
