Calling All Metal Fans

For those people who say that metallica after black album sucks I have to disagree. I thought Load was at least a decent album and Death Magnetic is definitely a good album. I think that is what they should have released a long time ago. it's a good blend of their old school roots with new age sounds.

Heard this song on Octane the other day and it reminds me of old school metallica.

I'd have to disagree with that statement entirely. They changed, but I wouldn't say that they sucked. Sure, it wasn't thrash anymore but if you just look at it for what it is instead of "old" metallica vs "new" metallica, I'd say that it was some good stuff. I really loved Death Magnetic, the solos were back, and they came back with some of their most intricate guitar riffing since And Justice For All. I will say this though, that there WERE a few years when I had some huge doubts about them. the "I disappear" made me want to vomit, and "St.Anger" was just flat out terrible

Also, pretty cool to see that there are some fellow guitar peeps on here! I've been playing guitar for like 14 years now or something like that. Over the years I've accumulated some pretty cool stuff.

Guitars- Jackson flying Vee (my first guitar), Agile AL 2000 and 3000 (les paul copies) ESP Dave Mustaine Flying Vee, Gibson Les Paul Studio, and my holy grail guitar..a pre-lawsuit ESP explorer (think James Hetfield) I've had a few other guitars, had a Fender Tele that was unfortunately stolen from my car before a gig and a PRS singlecut that was great, but the feel of the neck just didn't suit me personally. Also have Squire 5 string bass and an Ibanez Acoustic/Electric

Amps- for gigging I have a Line 6 HD 147 running through a Mesa Boogie 4x12, I also have an old VOX from the early 70's that's pretty much an antique and is pretty much a conversation peice at this point lol and for practice I have a line 6 spider III combo

Drums-a few years back I bough a TAMA rockstar kit, it's ok for my skill level (not so great) on drums lol and I have some zildjian starter kit cymbals..although I did get a really nice "A custom" hi hat from a friend for dirt cheap

Recording- I have a Korg D-3200 that I use for multi tracking, and I also have Pro Tools ...a bunch of Shure vocal and instrument mics and other odds and ends. Pretty much enough to record some demos and stuff.

Avenged seven fold is pretty good. And it's true, there is some good new Metallica. Although it is pretty hard to find.

Wouldnt surprise me. I cannot understand how they are still alive. At least Nikki Sixx has died before, but the rest of them are so drugged and have had so much alcohol I dont get it. I guess Billy Joel was right, only the good die young.

I have been watching the history of heavy metal on VHR classic. The last episode starts off with Mastodon in progressive metal which is cool because the drummer Brann Dailor his uncle is my therapist . They talked about Maiden and Priest in the power metal episode which was cool. The main interviewer was the interviewer of Flight 666 (which I recommend to any metal head)

This whole show can really introduce you to new types of metal. I write down bands to look on itunes and youtube.

Lol no. I discovered recently 2008 release that is pretty neat. It is Queen minus Freddie Mercury, + Paul Rodgers from Free and Bad Company. The album is called The Cosmos Rocks. Its great. Rodgers, despite being like 60, still sounds great.

Its not metal but everybody needs to listen to the album by John Fogerty Premonition. The best album ever made to date.
