Merged: FA WRs Discussion

If the Ravens are looking to upgrade the WR position as Ozzie said they will be looking to do, this year is the deepest the free agency class of WR has been in a while...check this list out, here are some of the top guys available

(in no particular order)
Vincent Jackson
Dwayne Bowe
Wes Welker
Reggie Wayne
Desean Jackson
Marques Colston
Steve Johnson
and many more

Now I don't know if Ozzie is looking to sign a WR that cost less or maybe find another one in the draft somewhere, but this year is a good one to pick up a WR in free agency...

I would part with Anquan Boldin for a few of those guys...unless he would be willing to restructure his current contract. Then still get one of those guys and keep Boldin in the slot.

I agree with this. It would be nice to see Flacco work with the same recievers for more than 1 year tho.

Given the state of our cap and the other players we want to resign i don't see us getting a big name WR. I think we draft a guy or go with a second tier guy. Flacco, Rice, and Grubbs are more important.

I agree 100%. Not only do I think bringing in a new FA wide receiver is completely unnecessary, I think it might be counterproductive and just a plain bad idea. Maybe I'm being a bit of a homer, but I think the Ravens are pretty stacked at WR and TE. They've got a great mix of speed, size, experience, and youth. The only thing missing is chemistry that can only be developed through lots and lots of reps. I think the Ravens need to focus more on the OL (i.e.; keeping them intact) and possibly adding a FA pass rush threat (e.g.; Umenyiora).

If I was at the top, I'd make a serious play for Colston
With what cap space exactly? As it is we likely won't have any for Grubbs and Colston has made it clear he will not take a "hometown discount" with the Saints so he is looking to get paid and we don't have the money.

Good Pull The Offense will be better with another year together No use getting into cap problems in the next couple of years for the chance on another FA WR

I don't know if Boldin is going anywhere but then again I didn't think Mason or Heap were leaving...maybe that shouldn't have caught me by surprise, Heap leaving made more sense since we drafted his replacement(s)

I think Boldin sticks around but I think Ozzie brings in another WR who is reliable and can get open consistently

Which is why I didn't say anything about the chances of getting him, which aren't very likely. Too much money, and why would he want to leave Brees? We'd have to give him a nice contract here, and we probably don't have the money to do so. But I'm just saying.. I'd love to have him here, and if there were any way to sign him, I would take a look at it

I would love to have Colston on the Ravens. Big, strong and knows how to stretch the field.
Not me, Colston is way too injury prone...

like someone else said, I believe it will be a drafted WR or more of a lesser name WR with upside? or someone who wants to win a Superbowl who will come to Bmore for less money..which is a real possibility too

Sorry to beat a dead horse since I've said this in other topics, but this is a big reason why I feel some top wide receivers will fall to us in the 2nd & 3rd rounds. If there are many free agent wide receivers and teams sign them or keep their own, that is less of a need to get more. Couple that with pressing positions such as oline & dline, as well as a deep cornerback class and we have a very nice draft where we can fill needs as well as get BPA when we draft 1st, 2nd, & 3rd.

Since I expect a run on oline early in the draft, I feel free agency is our best bet at fixing our oline.

I wouldn't want any free agent wide receivers. I like ours and if we got anyone I want a drafted wide receiver. No more Masons, Housh, Boldin, Evans, etc. I want our own guys.

I believe the top tier ones are out of our price range ($9+ M per year)

Reggie Wayne is probably going to follow Peyton

I don't trust system WRs in our system due to Cam misusing them.

Dang, I wish we pulled the trigger to get Malcolm Floyd last year. Now we have Lee Evans and his burdensome contract. Anquan Boldin is a great #2 Wr in the slot. We can only hope Torrey emerges as a #1 and hope our other younger WRs do better. Tandon had a disappointing rookie year, however he might still have a chance, even though he is built like Anquan Boldin.

The WR that might get my interest could be Chaz Schilens.
Since he's labeled as injury-prone, he might have to take a one year prove-it contract.

6-4 225 lbs, he's built like Malcolm Floyd and can be a big deep threat or be a sacrifical lamb for the defense to beat up.

We need that red zone presence to keep the defense from stacking the box.

I wonder why he gets hurt so much... Basically the Raiders used him to go over the middle to get eaten by the defense,

Someone I wouldn't mind signing is Brandon Lloyd. He flat out makes plays no matter how sucky his QB is. And would be cheaper than Colston and less than two years older. Josh Morgan would be a great option too if he can stay healthy. Of course this all depends on whether Lee Evans is back.

Hey... At least Chaz Schilens can do what Lee Evans did this season for a fraction of the cost. Get injured and spend the whole year nursing back to health. Schilens can do that for half a million dollars.

Ozzie did make a serious play for Floyd, unfortunately he was just using us to get his money from the Chargers. He was not serious about signing with another team. I know we don't have cap room to sign a top tier WR and we really need o-line help anyway, but man I would like to see a beast receiver like Colston, VJax, or Bowe here. It is not going to happen but I can still dream.

Ozzie knows we need a WR, but he won't break the bank... V-Jax and Colston are probably out of our price range, but would complement Boldin and Smith perfectly.

I'd much rather worry about bringing our own guys back first Joe, RIce, Grubbs, Redding, etc...then maybe see who is not picked up.
I do not want DeSean Jackson or Wes Welker at all on this team though.

I dont think Welker is going anywhere to be honest, and I would also not want anything to do with him as a Raven. He is way to "Patriotesque" in his attitude. Too arrogant.

Braylon Edwards and Robert Meachem are two guys wo i seriously think could be the big, tall, fast guy we need for next season.

all of those names don´t have a single reason to leave their current teams. they are all big parts on their offensive game plans. why would you leave?

I have total faith that Ozzie will bring in a WR that makes the fans and Joe happy

We got the deep threat in Torrey, we got Boldin who is great in the slot IMO and should be used there more often ...I think we need that BIG WR who can just tower over defenders...I want GRONK 2.0

A teams salary cap ? Maybe another team offers more $$ ? Maybe the player doesn't like his team? or there is some other conflict? Maybe the player wants to move closer to home by signing with another team? So many reasons but the main one is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I still believe in Tandon Doss tbh..
sorry for replying to my own thread so many times back to back

On Tandon Doss I too believe he will be a factor, he was a great talent in college and has the most reliable hands maybe of anyone on the team but he's got solid competition to get on the field with LaQuan Williams

I wouldn't mind seeing Meachem or Manningham if they would come cheaper then Evans.
The problem is we can't develop a WR. Torrey is the best we have ever had as a draft pick. We need a WR that already has proven himself before coming here.
