Will JO Be Elected To 2013 Hall Of Fame?

30 posts in this topic

I think he has a decent shot at first ballot, the SB win helps his cause, as does his consistent high level of play. That said, who knows with some of these Hall classes, guys I think may take a while to get in do so in their first or second year of eligibility and other guys have been sitting around as finalists for a decade so anyones guess is as good as mine right now. He'll definitely get in in his first few years as a finalist I think though

I could have swore to god Cris Carter would be in by now. PLus that class is pretty deep, since Warren Sapp, larry Allen and Michael Strahan are all eligible. But we're talking about the left tackle of his generation. He should get in first ballot.

Probably not. The people voting have this sick idea that there's a significance attached to your "first ballot" or something like that. It's like they feel better if a guy gets in his second time but not his first. He deserves it, but I think he'll get in on his second.

Edit: Maybe I'm wrong. Dermontti Dawson got in on his 6th time, but JO has 4 more pro bowls, 3 more all pro selections, and a ring. But I still think some of those guys on the committee would be truculent enough to resist putting him in on his first shot, just because that's somehow reserved.

I have been thinking that he will go in next year, but it all depends on the national writers who seem to have a bias against Baltimore.

I thought he would be a first ballot HOF'er but with the guys who vote in the media who knows what will happen, we have short memories, so will people remember JO was the best LT ever ? or one of the best? and is that enough to get in the first time? idk

He is a HOF'er but 1st ballot? that seems to have changed, I heard one reporter question if Ed Reed is a HOF'er so nothing would surprise me at this point

Ed Reed? The best safety to ever play? not a HOF'er? that dude should have been fired for writing that garbage

He'll get in on the first ballot. This isn't baseball, where people many of the voters believe that no player should get in on the first ballot.

You figure that Strahan is going to get in almost for sure.

The only reason I have to hesitate is that because there are only a maximum of five spots, people would hesitate to use two of those spots on offensive linemen. So Larry Allen might get in instead of Ogden.

But overall I think both of them are well laureled enough that they'll both be able to get in.

Here's a good list that I like. Notably, there is only one pure left tackle ranked above JO - Anthony Munoz. The others were centers, guards, or moved around. Thinking about it, there are three players that really at this point stand out as Raven HOFers, Ray, Ed, and JO. I think that being a left tackle on a bunch of teams that had no offense and with pass rushers teeing off on you all the time, while still getting the job done, will have a sway with some of the voters. Besides, there are zero controversies with JO. I mean, Michael Strahan is quoted saying how "nice" Odgen appeared even in games, smiling and all, before he got in there and "ripped your limbs off". The lack of controversy should help his case.

He should be. Next to Orlando Pace the best LT of the last 20 years IMO.

The HOF process for the NFL is really crappy though and a lot it is based on the medias own personal bias. It needs to be better run and more subjective.

Yeah, him and Orlando pace are kneck and kneck as the best Olineman in the NEfl since anthony munoz. I can't think of another tackle with that level of talent.

JO is arguably the best Left Tackle to ever play the game.

If he doesn't get in first time then they need a new group of voters.

would he be the first Raven in HoF ?
[/quote]

Not the first guy in that wore a Raven's uniform (Rod Woodson and "Prime Time" are in already), but the first drafted Raven, yes. Funny how the first two picks the Ravens franchise ever made both have an argument at being AT WORST top 3 all time at their positions.

It's all very political and, as someone suggested, is not the greatest process. 1 media rep from each franchise, 1 rep from Pro Football Writers of America, and 11 members from "at-large" media outlets make up the votes. Many of these folks are old timers and there's speculation of whether they vote with their hearts or minds. The Bill Parcells snub was the most recent red flag of this process....along with a few others.

That said, JO obviously deserves it. The man was a brick wall on the left, 11-time Pro Bowler, and an incredible figure off the field. The dude was a straight beast with an outstanding rep. I see him making it....just a matter of when.

This is an idiotic thread. There is no debate about it. Jonathon Ogden is going to the Hall Of Fame, First Ballot. Look at the guys they sent this year! JO has no competition. He was an elite force and it will be great to see that he is going in with Michael Strahan.
