Best Pats Weapon?

18 posts in this topic

I just started thinking about this after watching PTI on ESPN2:

Who really is the Pats best weapon?

I know people talk about Gronk and Welker the most, but to tell you the truth, I'm going to say it's a one-time Superbowl MVP... Deion Branch. He was great in last nights game, and he was really the only trusted receiver.

What's your opinion?

Also, I want to bring up a running back that nobody talks about:

Benjarvus Green-Ellis. He KILLED us in the AFC Championship game. He's NEVER fumbled. He was also pretty good in last nights game, just like Branch.

Gronk. He's a matchup terror. But Hernandez might be because of the coverage defenses have to give Gronk and Welker.
BB is a genious for drafting them.

Gronkowski is NE's best weapon. His numbers up until the title game speak for themselves.

I don't see how Branch was "great" with 3 catches for 45 yards and a bad drop on the first play of NE's final possession. And I'm pretty sure Welker is more trusted than him.

BJGE's ball-security is amazing but he's nothing special as a RB. His success in the title game was more down to NE's o-line playing well. Ngata wasn't the same down the stretch and Cody wore down too.

It irked me when Steve Young was making excuses for Brady and the Pats by saying Brady "does more than anyone else with less weapons"... what is he watching?!

Welker posted a 1,500 yd season, Gronk had the best season for a TE ever, Hernandez almost put up 1,000, and Deion Branch is a very solid #2 - not to mention their other role players and superb OL. Did he not see/hear ESPN pimping those two TEs for the entire season? Brady had a TON of weapons and he exploited them, to his credit, you can't use that as an excuse.

Gronkowski is the best weapon. Too big for anyone to cover, when healthy.

That might have been true before 2007 (2006 comes to mind when he almost got to another SB with a bunch of third-stringers at WR), but since they got Moss and Welker that season, I'd say he's right up there with guys like Brees, Rivers, Stafford, and Rodgers as having the best receiving corps in the NFL.

Yeah, that's my point. When he only had Deion Branch as a weapon, you could say that but he's got 3 of the best receiving options in the NFL.

Those TEs are mismatches, however they're no burners. So NE has no deep threat, but really dangerous in short passing situations.

His success in the run game had more to do with us playing a nickel defense and having our ends get double teamed on the inside.

I don't think you could make a case for anyone outside Gronk. The man is a animal.

Soooo wasted.

Could still probably get 5 catches, 50 yards and a TD while playing in that state, though.
