64 posts in this topic

After what we have expierenced this season with the great play of quarterbacks.....

(Brees breaking records, Newton breaking records, Eli winning his 2nd superbowl, Brady losing his 2nd)....

Who do you now think are the top QBs? Who are in the "Elite" category?

Plus who do you think will have a better year/surprise year next year? ( Put ^ next to name.)

I'll start it....

Elite:
- Rodgers
- Brees
- Brady
- P. Manning^
- E. Manning^
- Roethlisburger

Great:
- Rivers ^
- Stafford
- Flacco ^

Very Good:
- Schaub ^
- Romo
- Newton
- Vick ^
- Ryan
- Cutler ^

Good:
- Dalton
- Tebow ^
- Fitzpatrick
- Palmer ^
- Bradford ^
- Hasselbeck
- A. Smith
- Cassel
- Ponder
- Ortan

Bad:
- Freeman^
- Kolb

Worse:
- Sanchez

I don't think Stafford is great at all; 1 playoff appearance doesn't prove anything yet. Let him make to the postseason consistently then we'll put him in great. Right now, he's very good with Megatron......

The rest of the list is ok with me...

His stats were impressive, but watching him play he still has a lot of issues. Megatron makes him look a lot better than he actually is. I would switch Romo with Stafford, but other than that I think your list is pretty accurate although I am not sure I would consider Flacco to be "great", still too inconsistent IMO.

My list would be:

Tier1
Rodgers
Brady
Brees
Peyton

Tier2
Eli^
Ben

Tier3
Rivers^
Romo^
Flacco^
Ryan
Stafford
Schaub
Cutler^

Tier4
Vick^
Newton^
Hasselbeck
Dalton
Palmer^
Cassel
Smith
Freeman^

Tier5
Fitzpatrick
Moore^
Orton
Bradford^
Ponder
Kolb
Sanchez
Jackson
Tebow
McCoy
Grossman

His numbers were great though. Any other season without Brees and Rodgers doing what they did Stafford would have won MVP.
And of course Calvin helps. Gronk and Welker help Brady. Graham helps Brees. Jennings and Nelson helps Rodgers.
And Im not high on Romo at all. Hes the most inconsistent IMO.
Joe consistently wins and keeps getting better. Even though his stats may show he regressed this year, I think he got alot better.

i would have flaco in the top of the third tier right now. But watch out, next year when our o line can protect him consistently he'll be in the second tier for sure

Only reason I have him so high is because he wins. Which is the most important thing...He just hasnt won it all yet.
And If I had to choose between Flacco and Romo I would choose Flacco without one doubt.

Plus Joe has the ability to take over games. And should have plenty of more wins/chances if it wasnt for a lot of things..
Lee evans drop, Boldin drop,Clayton drops, Hauschka miss, Cundiff miss,Roddy white push off,Mason drop
But he still won the most by any other in his first 4 years.

You really can't put Joe in Ravens<3's top tier or Gabe's top 2 - all of those guys have rings. If he wins one next year, then we can talk about him moving up.

When you actually watched Stafford play though he didn't play as well as those numbers suggest.

Megatron demands AT LEAST double coverage on every play. He's one of the most athletically gifted receivers to ever play. Even when he's double or triple covered you can toss it up to him and he'll catch it. When he's on top of his game you just can't cover him.

I disagree with most of you. I think Flacco belongs in the elite category.
He is in the elite/top 10 category, just not the category of guys who have rings. If you look at all of the elite quarterbacks, what separates the top 6 from everyone else is rings.

Still numbers don't lie. Stafford finally had a full year healthy and did what he did.

All right, that I can agree with. So lets get him to that top one this coming season.

I think as soon as Flacco gets a ring, he will be top. He always slips under the radar. I feel like he is not as well known as everyone else, which I'm perfectly fine with. I think we will see a lot more from him next season.

In Order...
1: Elite
Peyton Manning
Brady
Rodgers
Brees

2: Upper Tier
Eli Manning
Roethlisberger
Rivers
Flacco
Schaub

3: Second Upper Tier
Ryan
Romo
Cutler
Vick
Stafford
Newton
Alex Smith

This is the best list I could come up with.

Eli Manning is NOT in the elite category until he can put up consistent regular season numbers. Don't forget that before this year there were people questioning if he's really any good. That said, Eli has the easiest road of any QB to BECOME elite. He just has to play at around his 2011 level in the regular season for at least another year. This is a guy who's used to throwing 15-20 picks a season, mind you.

The rest of the QBs in tier 2 have an easier time being named Elite than the QBs in tier 3. I put Flacco in here because he doesn't has consistently successful seasons without good receivers.

Alex Smith is in the 3rd tier based on this year, and that's me giving him the benefit of the doubt that being put in a good system can make him a 3rd tier QB. But one bad season and he's into Sanchez terrirory.
Eli's consistently getting better though.
He did great this year with his 4th quarter comebacks and then beating the falcons at home, then beating the packers and 49ers on the road, and then the patriots in SB. No normal QB can do what he's done.

Again, one great year doesn't make a QB elite. Look at his stats throughout his career. His average QB rating in the regular season is a measly 81.2. It's been better recently, but he still hovers around a 90 passer rating. I don't think it's much to ask for an elite QB to have more than two years with a rating over 90, even if he has two rings.

2 rings by beating one of the best QBs of our time Tom Brady.
I think Eli beating Brady twice and having only 2 rings is better then Brady having a 3-2 superbowl record.
Call me crazy idc, Eli is Elite. Your numbers dont have to be pretty, as long as you get the job done.

So is everyone who's been on the Giants since 2007 is elite because they have two rings too?

They're a dynasty, but Idk how to answer that. All I'm saying is Eli beat Brady twice in superbowl. Thats elite
