Peyton Or Eli?

26 posts in this topic

I asked myself this question during the Giants game-winning drive.

Who is the better QB? Peyton Manning? or Eli Manning?

I say Eli, He's a beast in the clutch. Also, he's won 2 SB's compared to Peyton's 1.

Peyton and its not close.

This. Also, Eli is not on Tom Brady's level.

When you break down the numbers, Eli has been mediocre outside of this year, and look who he was playing most of the time. The dude is simply not a good QB. He's probably the luckiest person ever to play in the league, if his first Super Bowl victory wasn't enough proof of that, but in terms of actual play he's just not a good decision maker with the football. He has the go switch of Brett Favre with luck that not even #4 possessed. Comparing him to his brother, who is one of the five best QBs of all time, is insulting to Peyton. It's not his fault that he plays for a franchise that is one of the worst run in the league. We saw just how much he does for that team when he was gone this year, and really the fact he won one Super Bowl the way that team is set up is pretty incredible.

Peyton makes everyone around him a better player because he's so good. Eli is made better by the incredible talent around him, especially at the receiver position. The Giants have one of the top 3 receiving corps in the league, with the Saints and the Packers. Outside of Harrison for a while and Wayne, Peyton has been elevating the play of mediocre receivers.

I'd still go with Eli. There is a reason he now has one ring more than Peyton. Okay, maybe Peyton is better in gameplay, but you can't say he's more efficient than Eli.

A better question would be: Is Eli now an elite QB as he claims to be?

Eli win's Super Bowls, Peyton just throws up numbers and records. I mean if I had a choice I would take Peyton over Eli in a shootout, but looking what Eli has done in his career versus Peyton. I have to take Eli.

Regular season Peyton. Post season Eli. I'm pretty sure Peyton has a losing record in the post season. Dominates the regular season, average in post season. Why does he have a ring? Because of the freakin' Bears and Rex Grossman. How weak was the NFC that year????

Not really.

Peyton = maybe the best QB ever

Eli = HOF QB if he has years like this more consistently

LOL at Peyton being the best Qb ever.. Joe Montana is, and its not close at all.

I'm taking Eli in this one.. Peyton sucks when it comes to nitty gritty time.

Did you watch football this year, and see what kind of team Indy is without Peyton?

I don't think hes the best QB, but hes in the debate. Eli is not.

Yeah I watched it.. haha. The Colts were an absolute disaster this year. But thats what is to be expected when your whole team is built to run around one player. If the Patriots built their team around Tom Brady back in 2008, the same results would've been seen when he went down for the year.

And Eli is 5-7 years younger than Peyton.. who knows what we'll be saying about him at that time?? 2 super bowls are nothing to sneeze at. Sure they don't automatically bring you into that convo (look at Bradshaw), but if/when the stats back those rings up 5 years from now, then we'll see what we think of Eli.

If Eli continues the way he is, down the road I'd say Eli. Right now though, Peyton.

But as you had stated, Eli is a beast in clutch mode.
[/quote]

I think the reason Eli is so beast in the clutch is because for all of his career, and even before the pro's, he's had to work hard to get what he has. Peyton, on the other hand, is like royalty and has always been treated like royalty.

Yeah, but the question was Peyton or Eli. Not Peyton or Eli 5 years from now.

SB's are big, but not the deciding factor. Brad Johnson, Trent Dilfer, and Jim McMahon aren't better QB's than Dan Marino.

Like I said, stats are important, but you need at least a few rings for me to put someone at numero uno at QB's in history. If you have rings and mediocore stats, it really hurts that talk as well though. Thus, my Terry Bradshaw reference in an earlier post.

Plus, you're the one who said that Eli will only be a HOF Qb, whereas Peyton will go down as perhaps the best Qb to ever play the game. Sounds to me like you were talking 5-10 years down the road.

Listen, any football fan with any sense will tell you Peyton is the better QB BUT Eli had the better TEAMs

Eli has a team that can run the ball and play defense too...Peyton? his run game has been poor since Edgerrin James retired or left and the Colts defense has always been a weak link

Peyton is superior to me...Eli ? he's played well during his two runs...for me Peyton is probably the best to ever play, he just didnt enjoy much postseason success because his teams were weak, look what happened when he wasnt at QB

Eli still has work to do before he becomes a lock for the HOF.

Whereas Peyton could retire today and he'd be in the conversation for best QB all time.

True.. doesn't matter to me anyways, doesn't affect my life as to which one is better lol.. I mean, I'm not a sports analyst, GM of either team (or any team for that matter.. outside of the board's mock draft, which is a different story lol..), or a family member/friend of them.

The Colts went from a perennial playoff contender to 1st Overall pick and the only player that missed the whole season was Manning.

He was the most deserving of MVP this year because the Colts are a complete joke without him.

Eli is more clutch than Peyton. Peyton is more talented, but I don't care about his regular season numbers he is 9-10 in the playoffs. Plus Eli has two rings now compared to one for number 18.
