Disagree. They will only remain competitive as long as their schedule contains the majority of bottom tier defenses. Brady just does not play well versus even middle tier defenses. Forget about actual top defenses.

Outside of us next season I haven't really looked at their schedule to see what defenses they will face.

They play the AFC South and NFC West, which, on paper, is easy as hell from a winning percentage standpoint, but the Jags and Texans should produce good defenses, along with the 49ers and Seahawks.

Like I said, I could be talking crazy with this "they're coming back down" stuff.

Eli was beat up in the media like Joe, so there is hope. Giants are not a glamour team so it may be a bearable offseason.

To me, that "QB-coach combo" talks is a joke. When the Pats were winning titles, they had quality RBs, some of the best defensive players of this era and an all-time great kicker. When you boil down the success down to just the Brady and Belichick, you minimize the contributions of other players.

They both still play the biggest parts of their success. And regardless of who else was on there team at the time they have been the most successful ever. Shula and Marino also had other weapons on their team but they weren't as successful as Brady and BB. And every year they compete even if their D is 31st

They still haven't been able to win a title without great players on defense though.

The Dolphins during the Shula and Marino didn't have nearly the talent the Pats had during their early 2000 teams. On offense, all Marino had were undersized Marks Brothers. And on defense, there wasn't even one great defensive player you can point to whose career overlapped Marino's.

Again, that 31st ranking was really deceptive. They were among a few defenses to record 40 sacks and 20 interceptions. And for all the yards they surrendered, they were stingy in the red zone and didn't give up many points.
