No More Pro Bowl?

15 posts in this topic

Goddell sais after what he seen last Sunday he will consider axing the pro bowl. Reported on Twitter I'll post the link later. Do you think this is good or bad? I hate how fans fork out money to travel and watch the game. The voting I also think isn't a fair assessment of the best players in the league that year. There's always people included on rep, and notable omissions.

Huh. Maybe that award show last night is the pre curser to the end of the pro bowl? Now it will just be the nfl honors show instead.

Yup, I heard this on the radio as well. It wouldn't surprise me if he did axe it. The way the fans in Hawaii reacted to it, coupled with the fact that a few players even complained about it, could be the reason. IMO, it's slowly been decreasing in the way they play the last few years. Now they just don't even care.

This would be a good move... I also heard next year's Pro Bowl will be in New Orleans.

The only incentive the players have is a trip to Hawaii.

More and more players are pulling out of it because it's a complete joke. The offensive and defensive line's play are a perfect example of how much the players care about the Pro Bowl.

Only thing, there will be no 'allstar' game of sorts. I think there should be like individual competitions like there used to be, sort of like an NBA All Star Skills challenge (3 point shootout/dunk contest/skills challenge/etc.)... I think there should be a whole weekend of competitions similar to the NBA involved. Like longest thrower/fastest runners/Skills challenge/Most accurate Qb under duress (throwing like nerf balls at the QB's while they try to hit targets at varying distances).

As bad as the game is, remember that over 10 million people watch it every year.

It's not going anywhere. And I doubt they'll find any changes they can make to make it more competitive. Football is a sport where contact is more integral than most any other sport. But players are never going to want to go all out and risk getting injured. It's just reality.

Thus my suggestion of taking the game itself away, or leaving it the same, but adding those individual competitions to the weekend. Make it a whole weekend thing. Thats why the All Star weekend in NBA/MLB is so awesome.. not because of the games itself, but the competitions are fun to watch.

Yes, that is an excellent idea, adding a skills challenge.

Eliminating the Pro Bowl would be well one of the better things Goodell has done in his tenure. Now if only he would get rid of some of the rules he made and let Football become Football again.

I heard he plans on making the Flag Football Bowl, and the Pro Bowlers would play in it.

Just kidding. I won't miss the Pro Bowl.

There needs to be some goal that the players are playing for. Otherwise you will see a half butt effort
