Ravens Now Have 2nd-Most DPOYs In NFL History

19 posts in this topic

With Terrell Suggs winning the DPOY today, the Ravens are now tied with the Giants for the second most defensive Players of the Year Awards for a franchise.

Only the Steelers have more with 7 DPOY awards.

Pretty impressive for a franchise that only been around since 1996

I'm a little confused.
We've had players named DPOY 4 times, but only 3 different players. Are we second with 4 or second with 3?

Ray Lewis made it twice, Ed Reed once and now Suggs.

First paragraph was great, then the second one made me sad.

Who cares? What matters here is our success.

Why would it make you sad? The Ravens have only been in existence since 1996, the Steelers have been around since 1933. Think of it this way, it took the Steelers more than 30 years after their first 4 to get the other 3. We have 4 in an 11 year period, and with players like Ngata, Lardarius Webb, Jimmy Smith, Pernelle McPhee, Sizzle, etc., plus future players we don't know about yet, there's a very good chance we could add to the number in the next decade.

Four seasons of having a Raven named DPOY is second, I don't think the number of different players that won is what's being counted.

Actually, we're in second for that one as well. Not even tied there, since 3 of New York's 4 were LT.

Thank you Ozzie for drafting these incredible defensive players that have gotten this award for this franchise. Lardarious Webb is going to be the DPOY next year, just putting it out there!!

It really is sad that only of those players has a ring.

What makes it even worse is that 2 of those DPOY awards were wasted with some of the worst offenses Ive seen with my own eyes. Can you imagine if we actually had a real QB and a real WR in 2003 when Jamal was running over teams that ALWAYS had 8 in the box? The PA would have murdered teams if we had Flacco.

If Reed comes back next season will it be the most DPOYs on the same team, at the same time, in NFL history? I mean, there would be three of them - has anyone topped that?
