Help Me Pick An NBA Team To Root For!

45 posts in this topic

Lately i have been getting into basketball. However I don't know what team to choose. I woulf like a team that isint to good so i don't get yelled at bandwagoning. Just an okay team. Like average underdog team.
When i was like 10 i liked the Toronto Raptors because they had a dinosaur on it. But i want an american team(sorry unamerican ravens fans)
HELP ME OUT!

They're not my team, but I like the Pistons. Mostly because Ben Gordon is one of my favorite players, but you said you wanted an underdog..

Well if you choose a team like the Wizards, I'm sure nobody is going to yell at you or call you a bandwagoner, since there is no Wizard's bandwagon. When I first got to DC, they started a string of 4 consecutive second place finishes, and that first year they actually won a playoff series, but then kept getting bounced out first round. Now they're a mess. If you're from Rochester, you could always choose the Nicks. But if you really want a team to root for that's both good and nobody will call you a bangwagon fan for supporting them, pick a team that is playoff good but nobody really hears about. Atlanta would be one, Denver might be one. But I'd go for either the Wizards or the Nicks. Or, if you have a favorite player, go for that team, and just say it's because you like that player. For instance, when I was young, I was a huge Shaquille O'Neal fan. So when he was with Orlando, I rooted for the Magic, then followed him to the Lakers, Heat, etc. Now I'm rooting for Kevin Durant and OKC, because I love his game and his attitude.

the wizards logo is lame. I don't like lame logo teams ethier lol.
Knicks yeah they are popular up here. I don't like going with the local teams really because it isint "fun" that way lol. Thats why i am not a Bills fan! Im also a Sharks fan which they arent very public.
I am really liking the Timberwolves.... yeah they are dead last but i could say i liked them when they sucked if they do good. lol

The Timberwolves are an up and coming team with plenty of young talent and they are by no means dead last. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised to see them in the playoffs this year.
With that being said, root for the Wizards and you won't have to worry about anyone calling you a bandwagoner!

Lakers.

Believe me, it is not fun being a fan of an underdog team in the NBA. Chances are, they wont win a championship.

The Lakers are such an obnoxious and arrogant team. I cant stand them. I wouldnt want to be a fan simply because they and the players are so irritating.

I'll second that to both points. Nothing beats watching Kobe take over a game, and you know they'll find someone else to watch once Kobe is gone. In terms of assembling a roster, there isn't a better team in the league.

I'd say the Heat are more like that than the Lakers. It's understandable when people are envious of fans/players of winning teams. Go Lakers.

Well if you want to avoid the bandwagoner cliche and just enjoy Basketball, pick no team and just watch it for the sport of it, like not having no favorite team and just watching it because you enjoy Basketball and you could care less about who wins as long as it's a good game. That way you can enjoy a sport without any interest and just enjoy it for what it is.

I'm a fan of the Phoenix Suns, and they seem to have a mix of good years and bad years, but they're decent to watch. Now if you hate Charles Barkley, you might want to avoid them

While I'm a Heat fan(been one since '04), I'd say you should root for the Pacers. They've got a good nucleus with Paul George(one of my favorite players), Darren Collison, Danny Granger, Roy Hibbert, Tyler Hansbrough/Psycho T and David West.

I doubt they win a title any time soon, but they should make some noise in the play-offs. They definitely did last year.

Its not envy. Its irritation at how they think they are hands down the best and they are so blatantly arrogant, especially if you see them in public.

Well its not like they're the Jets. They back up that cockiness/arrogance most years.

To prove I don't feel that way only because I'm a Laker fan, I also have said on countless occasions that I have no problem with the Steelers talking junk, because they back it up as well.

im afraid this might turn into a NBA 2011-2012 season thread!

Requirments to pick a team:

1) has to have a cool looking logo.
2)not a widely known team
3)Not in Canada (sorry Canadians)
4) not in New York

The Minnesota Timberwolves have all these!

I like this Love guy.

Well they've earned it. Like Jamal said, if you can back it up, there's no problem with it
