Grubbs Is In A Interesting Spot
Yanda is the better guard as far as run blocking goes. Grubbs beats him in pass pro by s bit. And, he got a ton of praise last year for playing tackle. He's without a doubt better than Grubbs. I mean, he made the probowl, Grubbs was an alternate. Yanda made the all pro team. Grubbs didn't. The commentators, and analysts go crazy over Yanda, not Grubbs.
This year....

Grubbs has been an alternate before for pro bowl honors. Who knows, Yanda could end up being the best guard on the team but Grubbs was the one they were talking about before Marshall.

Yanda, if I'm not mistaken, was the second alternate, maybe third at RT, not to mention the All Pro honors that you seem to have ignored. And, considering he had never played a full season at RG, it's great. And what else matters other than this year and the now? This year, and now, Yanda is the best guard and lineman we have. Considering the injury (which could have killed his career as an offensive lineman) and the constant shuffling, Yanda has done great.

Again, started at RT as a rookie. Then he tore his ACL in, I think week 2 of next year, came back halfway through the next year at RG AND RT, then got All Pro honors at RT, then got a probowl nod at RG.

I don't think Oher would be a great G, prefer the Ravens to deal with Grubbs..

Why not?

Oher played his role career at T and before the NFL he played LT, it's a great difference to play LT to G. The pass protection he trained is tottaly diferent and I really believe he best position is T because of his body prototype... Of course he could be better at G but imo he would not.

Actually, he's a little short and small for the prototypical LT, and RT for that matter. I'd say that Joe Thomas or Jake Long have the prototype build for tackle. Most guards are between 6'2 and 6'4, Oher is at 6'4. Athletically, he is quick enough, and strong enough to play guard. His best asset is his runblocking. However, he doesn't have the best footwork in pass blocking or in run blocking. His footwork is not very good, which would be better masked on the inside. He's strong and quick, but just doesn't have the footwork down to play tackle. Honestly, his size, skill set, and athleticism is perfect for guard. Tackles who can't pass block aren't tackles, they're guards.

Well said & I also think oher would do better at guard. Perhaps his footwork will improve but it hasn't yet.

I would hope that it improves, but I believe he's had issues with footwork since college. I think Fly hit it right on the money when he said that Oher hasn't improved at all since his rookie year. I wonder if someone like JO can help with that. The OL coach must not be good at teaching footwork considering Oher, Cousins, Reid, and Harewood all have awful footwork. Maybe they just suck, but he could do better at honing their technique.

J.O. for OL Coach!!!

Didn't JO coach up one of our guys last year in the offseason during the lockout? I can't remember if I read that or dreamed that lol. If someone can confirm that will help me feel better.

I'd love for JO to be a coach, but just because a guy is a HOF doesn't mean he will be a good coach. Look at Singletary.

I do believe we need a better OL coach

I don't think it was JO, I think it was Orlando Brown.

I will say that Singletary was a good LB coach, just not a good head coach, at all! JO was a very fundamentally sound player to go with his enormous frame.

Yeah, that was it. I would like a new OL coach & WR coach. I don't like either of them.

That would be nice, but even if they aren't it I want someone different. I really don't like the two we have right now. I feel like our OL has been rather stale in pass protection for a while, ever since JO left. I didn't like the other guy whose name I forgot, and I didn't want this guy, either. I've been wanting a new WR & OL coach since the 2009 season, and I'm still waiting.

I think as it stands now...they will try and get Grubbs as their top priority whilst slapping Webb with a first round tender and getting Grubbs his deal, then switching over to Webb's deal. Hopefully nobody will go after webb though, if they do we will have to out pay them or take their 1st rounder and use it on a cornerback in the draft.

Webb wants to play here. And he would likely take less to stay here as long as we made him a reasonable offer.

I really, really hope we keep Grubbs.

I see Grubbs setting the market for FA guards, whether that is with us or someone else. I get this bad feeling it will be elsewhere.

Yea its definitely going to be a wierd situation given both Grubbs and webb being free agents. Lets just pray we can keep them both.
