One thing we really need is a big guy who can push the line. Suggs is more of a finesse pass rusher. Ngata usually gets double teamed but I kind of liked him with the extra weight. Cody needs more muscle. Redding doesn't really get a lot of push. McPhee is one of my favorites in this category.

I have said this before, the 49'ers (even without justin smith) seem like at the snap of the ball, the entire O-line gets pushed back. Heck this happens when the Ravens play all the time (but against them). Suggs can get around a few guys yes, but we need Cody, Ngata, and a DE to be named later to really push the line. If you have a guy who can collapse the line like that, Suggs would have way more opportunities, it seems the QB can always step up....Here is what needs to happen..

Suggs does his thing, Ngata takes up two blockers (maybe put in muscle some of the weight he lost, Cody HAS to get muscle to push that Center back, Redding/McPhee (McPhee does it well enough) or get a guy in FA who can really push the line, let Kruger or Kindle get around those guys. Suggs can get around his blocker but the QB has all this space, not because of a lack of pass rush, but a lack of brute force at the line. You can have two guys get around the tackles but if the guards and center hold up, the qb just has to drop back far, and step up, this is the biggest issue with the pass rush.

You answered your own question. I agree with you. McPhee is the guy who can push the line back. He's explosive off the snap and is a disaster if you don't block him, which teams discovered the hard way.

Ozzie, please sign Marcus McNeil (LT). It's all I want for off-season. Thanks.

Guys like Cody and Redding and JJ stop the run. Ngata and Suggs stops the run and also rushes the QB. McPhee is a pretty good pass rusher as well.
I do think we need another OLB who can rush the pass

I said this too. We need a d lineman who can consistently get pressure with his 1-1 matchup. This would make us lethal when we did choose to blitz. Maybe mcphee can be that for us but I would rather have another person to rotate.

We do have Arthur Jones. I think we could see more of a presence from him & McPhee if Redding doesn't return.

I think we just really need the offseason so these rookies or youngins can get some time with the trainers. If McPhee gains some weight he can do some work.

Probably. We either find out what he can do this year and lock him up or he walks. This is the final year of his contract.

Me too. I will miss JJ though but its best for the team and I think he knows that.

Quinton Coples really hurt himself in the senior bowl because he got taken out of the game by the Mike Adams and Mitchell Schwartz, who are not even considered the top tackles in the draft. Along with his questionable work ethics, and effort, good luck to the team that takes him in the top half of the draft. However, if he drops to the lower half, Ozzie might take a look. The guy has all the gifts: size, speed, power to be a top pass rusher. However, his optimal position might be a 5-tech DE instead of a 3-tech DE like J.J. Watts. He could wreck havoc in the inside with Ngata as Kruger and Sizzle goes around the walls. That would be a dream come true. Pernell I think is going to be used like Adalius Thomas due to his mobility.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Draftees:
Trent Richardson (RB), Stephon Gilmore (CB), Lavonte David (WLB), Bobby Massie (OL), Dwight Bentley (CB), Trenton Robinson (FS)

New England Patriots Draftees:
Fletcher Cox (DE), Ronnell Lewis (Joker), Shea McClellin (Rover), Bobby Wagner (Jack), Chris Givens (WR), Marvin Jones (WR), Trevin Wade (CB), Russell Wilson (QB), Rhett Ellison (HB/FB/TE)

He can do it also, But Idk if he can do it consistently like Suggs and Ngata. And by consistent I mean a lot of the time.
Kindle was supposed to be that guy but we all know what happened with him. Last year Kruger came in situations to blitz. We dont know yet if he can be every down back. I think he can though, and I'm excited about him for next year.

I'm more much concerned with the other facets of his game to be honest. We know the guy can pressure the QB but can he do the other things like pass coverage, zone coverage, play recognition, stop the run, ect. that you need to have to be a well rounded LB.

Yeah another OLB, like it or not, Woodley and Harrison have an amazing double team combo. We just need that second pass rusher and we'll be VERY dominant. But I'd fix O-Line first if we don't sign Grubbs and Gurode and Birk retires

Im sorry, I dont believe Sizzle is a finesse Pass Rusher. He is all Power. I see him bull rush most of the time. Kruger is more of a cross between power and finesse. He has a rip and a spin move that I have seen him perform successfully

From what I remember of seeing him play he seems pretty good at coverage.

We have a better pass defense in almost every major category than the 49ers.

Disagree entirely. If he's such a powerful bull rusher, why do big tackles always kill him? Surely if he was a good power rusher, he'd be able to beat Whitworth and Starks!

I believe that he is at his best finesse rushing against tackles that tend to not have the best footwork. Yeah, he has his games where he dominates, but most of his sacks do come against scrub tackles. For example, he had 3 against the Colts. Who is there LT? No one special, right?

Yeah, I wish Suggs had more moves like the spin moves and bull rush to add to his repertoire.

Ngata is a big run stuff and a serviceable pass rusher and Cody is just a space eater. However, I really hope we get a homerun pass rusher to keep defense honest. Double teaming Suggs answered a lot of problems for opposing offenses. Why can't Cam learn from that.
