Ray Lewis Should Go

218 posts in this topic

There is no logical reason for Ray to retire yet. He is still playing at a high level, the team loves him, the fans love him, and he wants to play! Thats all I need to know.

Man, im going to get bashed for this one but what the heck. i dont care.

im gonna try and keep this short. im probably one of the few people who think this but i think we should trade him or let him go. now hear me out hes been great for this franchise but its time to let go. hey the 49ers got rid of joe montana and jerry rice, heck the packers had finally let go of Favre. Now im not sying this because we did so well without Ray for 4 games this year. Im saying this cause i had my heart set on him retiring after this season and he says hes coming is unacceptable to me and i feel its time to get rid of him and create new leaders on this team.

What do yall think and be honest.

Scorching Joe Flacco will get you -5 at most, but scorching the best linebacker to play the game and Mr. Raven himself will get you -60 and counting.

JJ is the linebacker that should be going. Ugh this whole thread disgusts me....Ray can play as long as he wants because he still shows up on Sundays.

He was a beast in the playoffs. This man plays with the heart of a lion. You don't throw that away, you try to win championships.

You dont cut or trade a guy like Ray Lewis lol. Unlike those great names like Favre, Ray BUILT this franchise, he is this franchise, and Baltimore is HIS City, nothing more needs to be said. Even if he sat on the sideline all season his teaching and coaching and mentoring to the young players is invaluable. Zero percent chance it would happen so this thread is useless, but i would disown this team as my favorite if it happened.

You want to switch usernames??? This is really irrelevent. Back on topic. Are you crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No way in hell we cut Lewis. what the heck is your problem. What is next, the Pats should cut Brady. We create new leaders by drafting them. Ray will teach them how to be a leader. Not to mention Flacco is going to be that leader.

Just look at Ray Lewis stats( still top 5 in his position) and what he brings to the players around him. Unlike the few players you mentioned, Ray Lewis brings so much to the table within the organization. He also isnt ridiculously expensive like montana,Favre were. In fact he took a sizable pay cut to stay in Ravens.

Number 1, it sounds like the only reason you want to get rid or Ray is because you wanted him to retire this year and he didn't, which is flat-out ridiculous. Number 2, there are no linebackers currently on this roster who can do a better job on the field than Ray Lewis. Number 3, if we were to draft a young guy like a Burflict in the first round, we'd need Ray around for at least a year to teach him some things. Not that Burflict couldn't become great on his own, but having one of the greatest players of all time at any position teach you how to play his position would be invaluable experience for a guy like Burflict who has lots of talent but doesn't know how to quite use it yet. So my honest opinion is that what you're saying, no matter how you slice it, makes no sense. It would be one thing if he had a Manning-type injury, maybe couldn't play again, and we were on the hook for lots of money if we kept him past a certain date. At that point you start to weigh the pros and cons of keeping a guy who may not be effective or play at all and would be a huge cap hit. But Ray is healthy, he will play, he missed games this year for the first time since 2007, he has missed only 21 games in the last 9 seasons. If Ray Lewis is healthy, he's the best ILB we could have outside of maybe Burflict talent wise, and it would be a few years before Burflict would be able to surpass even this version of Ray Lewis.

So, no disrespect to the OP, but other than saying you figured he'd retire and his coming back is unacceptable, you give no real reasons that you think he should go.

He might not have the speed he did in his youth but he is still making plays man. Everyone gets beat sometimes, Ray is no different. He's gotten beat on plays before, just that now everyone wants to point them out and say "oh he's too old, he's too slow, he needs to go". What Ray brings to this team goes beyond his play on the field and since his play on the field is still productive, I don't see any reason he should retire. And you have to know the Ravens will NEVER trade Ray.

He is a guarenteed HOF. Its not a matter of sooner or later. As soon as he retires, any voter with half a brain will vote him in. He is the only player listed on both SI's top D players of the past/all time, and top D players of the present.

No, what I mean is hopefully he sticks around longer, and therefore he retires later and is voted in later (there's a rule that says a player must be retired at least 5 years before he can be considered for the HOF). He's first ballot no question, so what I'm saying is I'd rather him stick around for two or three years and get voted in 8 years from now rather than retire this offseason and get voted in 5 years from now.

I'm amazed that this is just a few away from -100 in less than 24 hours. Maybe it'll be at -200 by tomorrow morning? How I love the offseason!!
