Ray Lewis Should Go

Pft, I want to be the next great MLB. But I'm 5'11 185 pounds and a white (soon to be) PE teacher. The want means jack all when you have no talent. People always say at the next level its the want that separates each player, the desire to be great. That's a crock of crap your high school coach told you to get you to work hard and cultivate the limited talent.

Players like Ellerbe and McClain have about 30% the talent Ray Lewis has, and McClain wants to be great. That will get McClain to be an above average MLB at best, not even an elite one in his own era.

Delusions is what you have if you think otherwise.

well pretty much everyone in the nfl has talent and think about guys who have gone undrafted and became great. guys like wr jimmy smith or even recently arian foster who prove this year hes no one year wonder

Arian Foster had maturity issues at Tennessee. Which is why he was undrafted. He was also unfocused as a college player. He has never lacked talent. You can't build talent, its that simple.

not saying that we shouldnt keep him, but with him staying here, it doesnt allow anyone else to really step up and have a leader role.

I'm not gonna lie, I was kinda hoping in the back of my mind that Ray and Ed would retire after we win a Super Bowl so we could have the trophy and buku money in free agency to resign Rice, Flacco and Grubbs and have money left over for a big time WR. But we lost.

Because of this, we need Ray Ray, there's no way we can replace him. His instincts and preparation are unparallel in this league. He’s slowed down a bit, but makes up for it with knowing where the play is going. Plus he’s actually still faster than the average ILB in the NFL mind you. Ray being slow is one of those myths that the public has about the Baltimore Ravens.

But there isn't. Unless you count Burfict, who's going either in the 1st or 2nd round.

Are you kidding? Have you ever seen the behind the scenes stuff with the Ravens on shows like SoundFX on NFLN? This is a deep team with good veteran and even some young leaders. If Ray was a selfish player, then you could say that .. but look at how they communicate. Look at how, when Ray couldn't take the field, it was TSizzle who stepped in as General. Without missing a beat, there was never a vacuum there. That speaks volumes about the depth of player leadership on this team. Ray Rice and Joe Flacco have shown it this year as have others.

Yea, when Ray puts on that 52 and steps on the field, the guys on that defense are following him. But there is most definitely a core group of leaders in place and developing on this team and it starts with Ray Lewis who has a very simple style .... "lead by example".

Seriously. Saying Ray is the only leader on the team is an insult to Reed, Sizzle, Haloti, the guys you mentioned, and even more. Ray Lewis may overshadow them but that's because he's literally the greatest of all time. He's still the best MLB on the team, one of the better ones in the league at the very least, he'll be a Raven for as long as he likes.

Ozzie will do his best to draft a "replacement" for Ray this April... but no one will ever be able to fill those shoes; it's just impossible. Let's let Ray decide when he's done. He won't keep playing if he doesn't think he'll be an effective contributor. He has too much pride.

Did you Lewis bashers learn nothing from the Texans game? Since I am refraining from doing any flaming, I will just say that I question your intellect.

I should go, too.

Go to the fridge, I mean, to get a beer after work.

Ray Lewis should do the same. He'll need one soon enough if the media starts asking him questions based on this thread...
