I've read some are not high on Hue Jackson because he threw his players under the bus and the Carson Palmer mess. No link or anything just readIng different boards and articles
Yeah I saw that somewhere, too. I'm positive that's why we or any other teams didn't hire him. He would of been the perfect fit. Oh well, we'll see how this goes.

Sorry, but I highly doubt Caldwell taught Manning anything about being a QB. I am pretty sure it was the other way around.
Well, you're not pretty nor are you sure.

He coached Manning. No one becomes great by themselves. Maybe you haven't achieved much or you know that.

lol this team loves hiring coaches who get fired after 1-15 season pretty smart
We just get guys who arent talented enough to be head coaches but were still pretty good enough to become head coaches lol.
(excluding cam)

I like this a lot. I think he is perfect. He may make Flacco into the next Manning. Orvlosky looked decent in some games. Painter...well, a pig can't be a hog no matter how hard it tries.

How can people bash the dude before he even gets here?

I, obviously, have no idea how it will turn out but his resume is pretty impressive. He coached Peyton Manning through his best years as a professional and still managed to be 4 games above .500 with the Colts, despite going 2-14 with them in 2011...

Exactly. It might not have been everyone's ideal hire but it's a step up from just Cam. I'm looking forward to seeing how he helps Joe.

I don't have a problem with this signing despite knowing next to nothing about Caldwell since the guy needs a job, and the Ravens love giving failed coaches a new place to call home (and than they never leave :P). What I do have a problem with is people all of a sudden bagging on Hue when a scant *day* ago (not to mention months ago) people were begging for him to come here. Just because we didn't get him and went with a different option doesn't mean this was automatically the right decision since 'Hue sucks anyway',.

You guys need to seperate out Jim Caldwell the Head Coach and Jim Caldwell the QB Coach. His HC performance was lacking (but I don't think anyone can put that all on him), but his QB Coaching resume and skillset is rock solid. It is what he has excelled at. He's been working with QBs since the mid-80's. Jim Caldwell has forgotten more about coaching quarterbacks than Cam Cameron knows about the subject.

I'm stoked about this. We talk about Flacco's mechanics and his footwoork, *this* is the man to take that to the next level.

And lets not forget, it also means that Tyrod is going to get coached up by him too.

This is the next best thing to a new OC. I'm sure this will be a much different arrangement than Zorn's stint here. Hopefully Caldwel will assist with the receivers as well.

This is a good hire, so now once Cam screws up we can have Caldwell take over as OC. I still don't understand why they didn't go after Hue Jackson or Jim Zorn, both who are already familiar with our offense and Joe. Either way it's good to have a QB Coach again.

Without Caldwell, Peyton was just a very good QB who put up fantasy football stats. With Caldwell, he went to 2 SBs and won one.

This won't stop you from minimizing Caldwell, because its your nature.
No I realize Caldwell's importance to Peyton's development, but Peyton also had an incredible amount of talent and no matter who we get to help Joe, even Peyton himself, he will never be Peyton Manning and our defense will still be the side of the ball to depend on. Not that our offense isn't dependable, but the focus of this team is defense and them holding other offenses in check rather than our offense out shooting an opposing offense. I just prioritize making our D as effective as possible, over getting a qb coach who will help our qb out, but not to the point where he can make it carry the team if need be. Cam is still the OC and will still largely be a factor in determining how our offense performs in games. I'm all for getting Joe and the offense some help, but not at the cost of the defense, which is kind of what happened here with Pagano leaving and Caldwell coming.

Personally I feel this is a win win. Maybe some separation between Cam and Joe will be a bonus; time will tell. I look forward to a winning season.....

Welcome to Baltimore, Jim!

Apparently it has something to do with the reason(s) why they were asked to leave in the first place. I agree that it's good news that the Ravens have a QB Coach.

Yeah, I am not sure why some people think that coaches who left the position a couple years back would just come back and pick up like nothing happened. There was obviously some tension between Zorn and Cam, not sure about Hue but ever think that maybe the FO did reach out to him and he wasnt interested? It's like some fans just expect anyone who isnt currently employed will jump at the opportunity to be a part of the Ravens coaching staff.

Per Cam, "Jim Caldwell's one of the best QB coaches over the years at teaching fundamentals that translate to the game."
Hopefully he'll bring the best out of Flacco!!

"“Jim Caldwell’s one of the best quarterbacks coaches over the years at teaching fundamentals that translate to the game and allow quarterbacks to maximize their play,” Cameron said. “I’m really excited about working with him.”
Cameron said he will still be intimately involved with the quarterbacks, as any offensive coordinator would be. But Caldwell will free him up to further focus on other areas of the offense."

I'm officially worried :(

I'm getting really excited about this hire. If he can help Joe become even a fraction of Peyton we have a lot of success coming our way. He will help Joe take his game to the next level.

Did you really think Cameron would give up one iota of power that wasn't strictly taken from him by the higher ups? There's too many sources (especially players who have played for him) that say he's a control freak for me to think differently.

I feel more comfortable now that we have a QB coach. When I heard it was Caldwell, I wasn't sure how much he'd help. I didn't know much about him and I didn't know if it was him or just Manning. I was just happy there would be someone else for Joe. After reading through the thread and finding out more about him and his credentials, I feel way better about it. I'm excited to see improvement in Joe's game, that's what I'm expecting anyway.

A guy with 9 years of experience working with peyton manning SHOULD be able to do wonders with Joe. Should be a great signing. Not saying he made Peyton Manning (far from it), just saying he got to watch an elite QB play for a long time and will have plenty of information to give to Joe to make him take the next step.

Personally, the hire doesnt phase me one way or another. However, I like the fact that we now have a QB coach who could be the voice to let the management know Cam is preventing Joe's growth.

Was thinking the same thing.

People need to stop saying stuff like that.

I'll settle for better footwork and pre-snap reads.
