I hope the ravens are able to get Hue Jackson ( wide receiver coach) and Greg Manusky ( linebacker coach)

Some of you need to step away from the ledge and look at it this way. In 2001, Caldwell did his job with the Bucs and managed Brad Johnson to play fine and earn a Wild Card spot. Nothing spectacular here but Johnson was a average QB beforehand and it was his first year working with Brad.

Caldwell was the QB coach for Indy from 2002-2008. If you look at Peyton Manning's first four years in the NFL he had an avg passer rating of 85.18. If you look at the first four years Jim Caldwell worked with Peyton Manning his avg passer rating jumped to 103.25. After the first four years with Caldwell, Peyton's passer rating remained in low-high 90's. In 2004, Manning threw for a career high 49 TD's, career high PR of 121.1, and a then career high completion % of 67.6 (which he broke in '09).

Obviously, these stats are just interesting correlations but Caldwell was always a known favorite of Tony Dungy and Peyton Manning. I think we got ourselves a very aggressive QB coach that knows how to manage as well as excel QBs.

That's not a fair assessment. Caldwell joined the Colts staff as the QB coach in 2002, very early in Manning's career. He definitely had something to do with his development. Really, getting someone between the moron and Joe again is a very good thing.

Hey watch the moron slander. He is the idiot. Morons never did anything to you that you should insult them.

All this complaining, and the man hasn't even been offically hired yet geez guys come on. Give the man a chance, good lord!! I'm thankful Calwell will be between Cam and Joe, I'm not going to judge him on his record from last year as a head coach. He really didn't have much to work with without Peyton. We all know that a great qb can make a head coach look more brilliant then he really is example Bill Bilichick with Tom Brady, Brian Billick hitched a ride to the coattails of our defense for several years. Who knows what would have happened if Caldwell was the coach last season having a healthy Petyon Manning and weapons on offense. Cadwell had a role in Peyton's development, that can't be denied in all honesty. Just having him between Cam and Joe is a plus alone in my book. If this is a done deal, I trust the Ozzie and the gang that they know what they are doing.

Don't really feel one way or another about this.

What makes anyone think Caldwell will do anything different? He'll give Flacco some pointers, but the offense wont change any because we all know how stubborn Cam is.

All this does is give us someone if Cam is fired by mid-season. (which isn't happening anyways)

Well, Jim, you'll more than likely be the new OC by midseason. I wish you nothing but success.
Wow....i hope that does not happen.

Jim, just show us you can help Flacco. Other than that, I do not wish to see you anywhre near the playbook.

So here's a serious question: what if the offense doesn't change but the execution improves? A few more 3rd down conversions and/or completed passes could have made a world of difference in 2011.

Idk how much he had to do with Peyton's development since Manning pretty much designed the entire offense himself and Tom Moore was the person he worked closest with. I'd try and ask Moore to do some consultative work like he did with the Jets last season and helped them improve their red zone offense to #1. Since Caldwell will be familiar with him that's a good connection to have.

Also, Cam is first the QB coach last season because "there were too many cooks in the kitchen and voices in Joe's head" but now someone else fills that position? Seems odd...

The offense won't change but Flacco will hopefully improve. Caldwell is a much better QB coach than Cam so our offense can improve that way.

I think the offense will change it definately was alot different from what it was in 2010 and it improved. I dont know if Cam is stubborn but I have faith changes will be made since now Cam will have a much longer off season to evaluate/ work with the offensive players this year

When Zorn was here in 2010 Joe had his best, most consistent season. If nothing else, having somebody who works with Joe personally and isn't Cam can only help Joe get better - if that happens then let Cam do whatever he wants. If Joe improves drastically next year and the offense as a whole flounders, then everyone, and Harbaugh, will have to admit that Cam is the problem and not the solution.

I agree the ravens were ranked number three in drop passes last year and most of wideouts/tightends well fairly new/ inexperienced . The wideouts/tightends will have a much longer off season to get better and have more time to get on the same page with Joe Flacco

Caldwell made the right decision at least for himself at the moment. In Squeelerville ,Ben is beyond ticked off that Ronney got rid of Bruce Arians. It's never good to have your franchise QB ticked off at the ownership. Caldwell would have walked into a bad situation in Pittsburg if he took the OC job. Bruch and Ben were very tight. At least with Caldwell becoming the QB coach, he comes in at least two years removed from Jim Zorn being let go and Joe being upset over the move.

Yup. Better hands and we will dominate.

Although I look forward to Caldwell being the Ravens QB coach, I find it hard to believe that he molded Manning into an elite QB. Archie had more to do with that than any coach. The dude was born into the QB dynasty. Jim may have refined Peyton's skills yet the fundamentals were already in place. I do give him kudos for anything positive that he instilled into Manning. It's been said that stats lie but there is always some underlying truth in them.

The Steelers no longer wanted Bruce, but the decision apparently came from the top not from their GM.

I'm pretty happy to read this. Get someone with great credentials inbetween Cam and Joe.
Exactly! Also, this will give us someone with the guts to say, "Umm, Cam, are you sure you want to run that end-around on first down?" Also, "Why don't we throw a short pass on third and long, rather than sending everyone deep?" Finally, "Cameron, we can't run up the middle all day, they are eating Rice up." Flacco was upset with the loss of Zorn so he must be so happy.

Yeah I am hoping Caldwell throws some imput into the offenseive play calling, especially when it comes to the passing game. I'm guessing Joe is a happy guy right now.

I agree with that, it's hard to say that jim caldwell molded manning into one of the greatest qbs ever, but the fact is that he was in every qb meeting/offensive meetings with one of the greatest to play since 2002. If anything he will give Joe another eye which would help him tremondously. I'm hoping Jim will be able to help Joe with his presnap skills, such as reading the defense, understanding the coverage and (after the snap) helping with his vision becuase I still feel like Joe needs to improve in those areas.

So, here's some more ammo for the "Can Cam" crowd...

By bringing in a QB coach after giving Cam those duties last season, what message is that sending??

How happy would you be if Cam got demoted to QB Coach and Caldwell took over as OC. I know it will never happen but Schefter did say "Join offensive staff, likely as QB Coach". It's not impossible! Just very very very very unlikely. A man can dream can't he?

You guys hoping that he is replacing Cam as OC are crazy. I just recently read that he has never been an OC and has actually never been in charge with play calling. Even in Indy last year he let the play calling be determined by the OC. He would more then likely fall on his face harder than the job he did this past year as a head coach.
