Silver Lining: We Have A Future Top 5 Cb

23 posts in this topic

It always takes me a good week to get my football witts about me after a playoff elimination. I can't put the season into perspective right away and seem to dwell on the mistakes from just the one game that eliminated us rather than the season as a whole.

Now that the smoke has cleared and my eyes are set on the future, I can honestly say Lardarius Webb will be a top 5 CB in the NFL as early as next year. After reflecting back on this season I've had many other great realizations but I just want to focus on Webb right now. Before the season started I knew this was a make or break year for Webb. I viewed him as an average nickelback who would probably be better suited at safety. For Webb to come this year and dominate like he did as our #1 CB is just incredible.

This kid is a playmaker, 8 total picks on the year (that's including playoffs), one of those picks returned for a TD, plus the Punt return TD. That's a hell of a year if you ask me. The thing I enjoy most about Webb's game is his soft hands and ability to attack the ball in the air and be a better reciever than the actual reciever he's covering. This man is a turnover machine and his 3 playoff picks goes to show you he plays his best football when it matters most. Not to mention he's a great team player and humble despite his tremendous success. You can't ask for anything more as a fan. The sky's the limit for Webb, I see him only getting better from here on out and stepping into that elite class with the likes of Revis and Woodson.

My Current Top 10 CB's:

1. Revis
2. Champ Bailey
3. Charles Woodson
4. Asomugha
5. Jonathan Joseph
6. Webb
7. Carlos Rogers
8. Brent Grimes
9. Chris Gamble
10. Brandon Browner

We have two future top 10 CBs in Webb and JSmith. Ozzie somehow managed to find a duo similar to Duane Starks and Chris McAlister again.

I really believe in this and do believe for that matter Smith will be a top 10 CB next season. I love the fact that Reed guided Webb and taught him so much in the game. It's paying off greatly.

Tells you something when a future HOF player takes a player under his wing and takes the time to teach the player the nuances of the game.

Negged you because your list of CBs is awful. Bailey and Asomugha were both really bad this season. Webb and Rogers both out played them substantially. You can say Aso is more talented if you want, and that he was misused, but its all irrelevant if you're not preforming on the field and he didn't.

Ya not sure about chris gamble either.... Grimes seems too high for me as well. Just staying within our division I think Joe Haden, Ike Taylor and maybe even Leon on could be above gamble.

I forgot about flowers, he is a top 10 CB. Chris Gamble is VERY underrated as is Browner. It's splitting hairs with guys like Grimes and Haden. Ike Taylor got torched by Tebow, he's an above average corner but I like all the guys I listed above him at this point in time.

My Revised Top 10:

1. Revis
2. Bailey
3. Woodson (I know he didn't have a great season but he's still proved all he has to)
4. Jonahthan Joseph
5. Brandon Flowers
6. Webb
7. Carlos Rogers
8. Joe Haden
9. Brent Grimes
10. Chris Gamble

Good post on Webb.

Browner is fantastic, and I really wish the Ravens would take a longer look at players coming out of the CFL.

Sure, there's only a handful of players coming out every year who go onto be difference makers, but why completely ignore the resource?

I find it kind of funny that last year one of our weakest parts were our corners. Now they are are best which is great in this pass happy league

In this pass happy NFL, you have to be at least 3 deep at corner and we have five legit prospects.

Webb and Jimmy Smith are a potenttial number one CB tandem.
Cary Williams is forgotten but could be an outstanding nickel.
And we have speedster Chykie Brown and an impressive Danny Gorrer waiting and developing.

1. Revis
2. Champ Bailey
3. Charles Woodson
4. Asomugha
5. Jonathan Joseph
6. Webb

Woodson has lost a step but is vicious in nickle position and asomugha got abused this year. I would put Webb in-front of Joseph.
