Dear Torrey Smith

Of course I love Torrey. But speaking of which, what ever happened to mgridda? Wasn't he the guy who kept pushing us to draft Torrey last spring? I'm surprised he hasn't been on at all to at least say that he was right about Torrey.

Great post.. I was 50/50 on Torrey but that was mostly cause of our rich history in drafting wideouts early

Seeing Torrey explode was my favorite part of this season. I'm happy to admit I was wrong about this kid, as I didn't want to touch him with a ten foot pole in the draft because he couldn't catch. I've watched him get better at that this season, and I can only assume that with his work ethic he's only going to get better. A full off-season to develop and work with Flacco is going to do wonders for the kid.

And that play Torrey made against the Patriots was one of the best plays I've seen a WR make. He dragged a guy by the facemask and would not be denied a touchdown, and you gotta love seeing that kind of player, especially in a position that is stereotyped as being soft.

Awwwwwww Demon, awesome post, man!

Am I the only one who was actually excited and happy when we drafted Torrey? Must have been.

Probably. I was on the boards when he was drafted. You would've thought we drafted Hitler with our 2nd rounder lol

I had my doubts on him and wanted Cobb, Little, or Hankerson. I'm more than happy to eat my words. He still has plenty of room for improvement but the sky truly is the limit for Torrey. It's great to see a local kid be successful.

It was bad when he first started, he was considered an afterthought and was the reason we went after Evans. Now we're all wondering who should partner with Torrey in the near future.

Just to make the comparison:

Torrey Smith: 14 starts, 50 receptions, 841 yards = 60 YPG or 16.8 YPR, 7 TDS

AJ Green: 15 starts, 65 receptions, 1057 yards = 70.5 YPG or 16.3 YPR, 7 TDS

Julio Jones: 13 starts, 54 receptions, 959 yards = 73.7 YPG or 17.8 YPR, 8 TDS

You also have to factor in that Torrey and Jones were not the number 1 options on their respective teams. But in all, I feel that we got excellent production out of Torrey, certainly comparable to these receivers, who were supposed to be number 1 type receivers almost from day 1. And of the three, it's my opinion that Torrey is the most "raw" and therefore has the most growth left in him.

Torrey is one of my favorite players. He's a down to earth guy and an amazing player, I'm glad we added him to the team this year and I look forward to seeing his development. Can't wait to wear my #82 every game next season.

Ever since the NC state game I wanted the ravens to draft torrey so bad and felt that he would give us the speed and playmaking ability we needed next to boldin. The majority of the people on the board thought his drops would get the best of him in the NFL, and initially they were right. BUT, I'm so glad that torrey never stopped working and didn't put his head down once this season. Without him, I can count 3 games off the top of my head we wouldn't have won (arizona, second pitt game, first bengals game). The best thing about torrey smith is his work ethic (and the fact that hes very coachable which kind of ties into work ethic), he wants to be the best and he's not going to let any distractions get in the way.

Thank you torrey smith for breaking ozzies streak of drafting bust wrs. I'm excited to see you blossom into the number 1 reciever we all know you'll become

if he gets on the same page with joe on those long bombs a will score even more. it always seems that he is slowing down and waiting for the ball and when he recognizes that the ball is on his way he starts running full speed again. he needs to trust joes arm. damn it. joe can throw from one end zone to the other one. no need to wait. just run as fast as you can!!

Didn't know him in college as I dont watch much college ball. Started following him on twitter because of hensley and the ravens site hyping up how he practiced. Very excited to see how he improves

I didn't think his game would translate. Thought he was too raw in route running and too inconsistent with his hands. What I didn't know was how game fast he actually is, and his raw speed and particularly acceleration makes up for alot.

I wanted Baldwin lol. I always fall in love with a WR in the draft. It was Dez two years ago, Baldwin last year and Blackmon this year. I'm proud to have Torrey Smith though. He's quickly becoming one of my favorite Ravens

Torrey became the first WR in team history to record two 150-plus receiving games in a game (165 versus Cincy and 152 versus St.Louis). Source
