Flacco Drawing Grief For Cancelling Polar Bear Plunge Appearance

82 posts in this topic

...for cancelling his scheduled appearance at the Polar Bear Plunge today. I'm not so sure he handled this tactfully. It would benefit him immensely to hire a PR person to advise him about handling the press and media.

It wasn't a wise move to cancel. He does need a PR person to help him make some of these decisions. I don't personally think it's a big deal for him to cancel, but I know the Polar Bear Plunge is important to a lot of people. It doesn't help his image.

Any word on why he cancelled? Perhaps he is just beside himself with the news of Cam's return.

From the Polar Bear Plunge Facebook page:

"Citing personal reasons, we have received official word from Joe Flacco that he will not be attending the Plunge on Saturday. He is taking some time with his family out of town to decompress from the abrupt end to the Ravens’ season. We saw a post earlier from “Joe Flacco” inviting people to join him. We have confirmed that this page is not operated by the real Joe Flacco, and apologize for any confusion this may cause. We are supportive of Joe’s decision, and look forward to playing his personal video message to you on Saturday!"

Yeah, but you know that just gives the media more fuel for the fire.m

Without knowing exactly what "personal reasons" means I'm not going to judge him too harshly on this.

That said, the timing worries me. It could be anything yes but I guess I'm a little paranoid about the entire Cam returning thing and the timing here is freakish.

Bleep the media. He's done the plunge before. My cousin was there when he did it. I thought he was gonna do it because I saw a commercial with him promoting it earlier this week, but I think it was before Cam got rehired.

I think he pulled out because he knew after hearing Cam Cameron was brought back he would decide to stay under the water and didn't want to do that to his family.

Joe does tons of charitable stuff and he's done the Polar Bear plunge in the past, I don't see a big deal. He does have a pregnant wife at home...

Give the man some space. Ive been dealing all week with people who want to talk about the game last Sunday. It sucks having to rehash those feelings. I'm sure it would be 1000 times worse for Joe. Especially all the flippin Cam questions. I don't blame him one bit for bowing out. Probably saved himself some bad press for getting visibly irritated at all the stupid things people would say to him. ;)

Who cares about his image? This is the guy half the town wants to send packing, yet he's supposed to go jump in near freezing water for them? Whatever...

After what he went through 6 days ago I don't blame him for cancelling. He had 2 teammates let him down b-i-g time and cost him a chance to go to the Super Bowl, strengthing his bargining position (probably cost him a couple mil easy) and r-e-s-p-e-c-t of the national media. I'd cancel too.

haha

I cant believe people still dont like Joe

its mind boggling to me, as a Ravens fan, when you've been thru such horrible QB'ing for SO LONG..u finally get a QB who can WIN consisntently in this league, he does everything he is asked to do in this offense and people dont want him?

these are people who really do not appreciate our position NOW as opposed to Kyle Boller and so on

Cancelling an appearance at a special olympics fundraising event is a huge slap in the face. He should of manned up and did it. If this wasn an autograph signing or a interview, I would understand, but this is low to me. Those kids who participate in the plunge are probably very saddened by this.

He has 50 career wins(regular and post season) much more combined wins than at least several of our old QBs. We win at least ONE game in the playoffs and have been in the playoffs four straight seasons and working on five next season. Not many teams can say they have gone to 2 AFC Championship Games in four playoff births, many teams just well, HOPE to get into the playoffs and see what happens. Ravens go into the playoffs, and John doesn't say to the team, let's just see what happens or just say let's be happy we are here, no we go in to the playoffs to win and get to the Super Bowl.

So let the man do what he wants, as some said, he has a pregnant wife at home and there is such a thing as LIFE when playing Football.

Joe just can't do anything right in your eyes, can he?

If the man needs time for himself and his own family, let him have it. And if anyone is really that concerned about it, maybe one of you guys can go volunteer to sub in for Joe?

Are people REALLY saying this is Cams fault?

Sure why not we blame Joe for everything so why not include Cam.

I mean his wife and pregnant. Any guy knows man when your lady is pregnant you become a maid lol. He probably just wanted to sit home watch some TV and chill with his wife. Nothing wrong with that.

Lol at anyone whining about this. Flacco can do whatever he wants, he doesn't owe anything to anyone. He's done the plunge before, he's done plenty of events. I have no sympathy for anyone who's "upset" by this. In fact, I'm happy that he didn't go. I would have advised him not to go to this event, and just spend time with his family and away from the questions and painful memories. And I would advise him not to give a dam about anyone's complaints. That goes double for the "fans" who have done nothing but degrade his accomplishments.
