[Blogs] Ravens Sign Cameron To Extension

663 posts in this topic

Cam Cameron will be back in Baltimore for another season.

The Ravens announced Friday that they have signed Cameron to an extension after already serving as the Ravens’ offensive coordinator for four years.

Cameron’s return will keep some continuity among the Ravens’ assistant coaches. Baltimore lost Defensive Coordinator Chuck Pagano to the Colts this offseason, but Cameron will be back to lead the offense that came within seconds of reaching the Super Bowl.

Cameron’s contract was set to expire this offseason.

Under Cameron in 2011, the Ravens finished the season ranked 15th in total yards, 19th in passing and 10th in rushing. They finished fourth in the AFC in scoring.

The Ravens had four Pro Bowlers on offense – right guard Marshal Yanda, fullback Vonta Leach, running back Ray Rice and left guard Ben Grubbs.

Cameron also coached the quarterbacks this season, and Joe Flacco finished the year with 3,610 passing yards and 20 touchdowns.

Those stats are not eath-shaking. Why put them here and associate them with Cam? I'd rather hear about why the decision was really made about keeping him.

so a majority of your fan base doesn't want him back and your decision is to extend his contract, no McDaniel college no connection with fans.

I actually think this is a good thing. Our offense has gotten better each year and its due to continuity. If you don't agree, look at the Oakland Raiders. No continuity, no playoff berths

Cameron should thank Pags over and over since he saved his job. They would never clean both sides of the house until they have a non playoff year and hopefully its not this upcoming one

Are you kidding me? Are they going to get Joe a QB coach, or is this prima donna going to continue his absolute control regime and ruin the kid? Maybe this year, Cameron can learn about how to counter a 4-3 and stop losing to crappy teams. Poor Joe.

Well this sucks. Steelers are gonna get a better coordinator, Jets got another, Pats got Mcdaniels back. They are all gonna improve on offense while we are stuck in the dark ages.

How can you say offense had a good year when the only pro bowl players are your running back, fb and o line menn in a passing league?

The Ravens have had an average offense for the past few years. Last year was no different. By rehiring Cam the front office is saying that the mediocrity on offense is a reflection of mediocre offensive players rather than mediocre scheme. If so, Ozzie has his work cut out for him trying to upgrade the offensive players, otherwise results will be the same next year.

Poor Joe, he's going to get killed holding onto the ball too long because receivers are running go or out routes and defense knows what the offense is going to do lol...

I mean no offense to Cam Cameron (not sure if pun intended or not), but it would seem like if Pagano had stayed, I kind of wish that he would have left - I feel like he is only here to keep some sort of continuity now that Pagano is gone. Also, how is it that we have Ray Rice (not to mention Vontae Leach and Ricky Williams) and still the tenth rushing offense? That honestly seems like a weird situation to me

At the end of the day we have an insanely talented offense. Our offensive unit should have been doing far more than what they did. The problem is they have this guy out there creating schemes that don't allow our players to get open and don't fool any defense. As Greg Cossell put it, with the plays Cam creates, our offense looks like its from the 1960's. Until we get rid of him our very promising offense will never reach their full potential. Just look at Anquan Boldin. Don't get me wrong hes been great for us, but we have seen him play to his potential in a different system in Arizona. Clearly something's amiss; I just don't understand why the front office can't see it.

Once Pagano was hired by the Colts, I didn't think there was any way they would get rid of Cam. Too much change all at once. That being said, I hope they bring in a real quarterback coach - and I hope Joe gets a say in who it is.

Keeping Cameron should cost Harbaugh his job.

I agree. This is garbage.

Must say I am a little disappointed. I admit Cam worked well this year with an O line that left somethings to be desired, but I do still question his development/relationship with Joe and play calling as a whole. I hope Cam continues to grow this offense and prove us all wrong.

Go Ravens.

Come on guys, the lack of production also hd to do with injuries to Boldin, Torrey Smith being a rookie, injuries on the line, and Dickson and Pitta being new starters. Certainly Cam could and should do more, but he isn't the reason for a lack of production. The players could, you know, play better. He could have the most progressive, newest system in the world and if the players don't perform (for instance, Dickson's drops, Torrey's drops, The O-line being unable to open any holes) Cam can't be blamed for that.

That being said, I am only giving Cam one more season before I decide if I want him to go or not, right now i'm in the middle, and I see reasons to let him stay and reasons to get a new guy

cam, the offense needs you to adjust and or tweak your playbook for the good of flacco and the offense as a whole. not all of it is on you, the o-line needs to play better, flacco needs to hit open receivers and receivers need to catch the ball. good luck to you next season but i hope we bring hue jackson back as qb coach and for insurance if there is no improvement.
