Candidates For Defensive Coordinator

145 posts in this topic

I dont care who our NEXT D.C is, as long as i hear CAM is gone. Im more curious in who our next O.C is going to be.

Seems every yr, the RAVENS and their FANS can't just deal with a Loss in the season ender and plan for next season. Seems we always have to find Coaches while we are at it. I m sick of it, we should be getting Draft picks or something.

This is how the RAVENS org. gets rewarded for having a great yr, its like the league does everything they can from us getting that trophy. Its like we are rebuilding the freaking team every yr.

Mike Singletary?
I like that idea, he was responsible for the 49ers defense, not JIM Harb.

Maybe he works magic with Jerry Hughes who to this point is a bust? Or JJ could go there. And they could bring in McKinney from here as well
Good point, but Freeney will play somewhere. It will be comical seeing him stand up I believe and trying to maintain gap integrity in a 34 defense. McKinney is a good point, didnt know he was a FA, he's as good as gone to Indy. So is JJ likely.

I wish Nolan was still available.

No kidding.

Vic Fangio is responsible for the scheme, Singletary and more likely the GM is responsible for accumulating the players.

Gotta go Del Rio ...

Trend in the NFL is to get the coordinators with no prior HC experience...so if we hired from within we just be grooming the next pagano...

Our best bet is Del Rio, the JAGS defense was pretty good this yr.
Del Rio is a 4-3 guy, while that would certainly make our front 4 pretty legit (Suggs, McPhee, Ngata, Kruger) our LB unit wouldn't be able to handle it I dont think. McClain could easily play Sam, and I'd experiment with Kindle at the Will if he can play at all. But Ray Ray I dont think can play sideline to sideline in a 4-3 defense like he once could. Plus this really limits the creativity you can do in a 3-4, and relies on that front 4 to get pressure consistently. Something Im not sold on with that front 4.

I could see us staying in house with either Dean Peas or Roy Anderson but I actually lean towards Anderson. He has been under Pagano for the last few seasons and I would hope that the organization liked what Pagano brought to the defense. Anderson being young probably learned a lot from Pagano and would most likely bring in that same type of mind with his own little twists. Peas has been there and done that and has his own ways to run a defense, but who knows really. Whoever gets the job is going to have a much easier job than their last with the talent that they will be surrounded by.

I say give Singletary a shot. Dude was a defensive genius and field general during his days on the field. I think he's still Linebackers' Coach at Minnesota. They might try to make him DC, but if you are him do you want to coach the Minnesota Vikings' Defense or the Baltimore Ravens'? And I KNOW Ray Lewis respects the heck out of him.

Whoever it is. He better intend to stay here as a coach. We aren't santa claus giving away free gifts to upgrade these byproducts a joy ride.

Yep, wish we could bring him back. Of course, I really, really wish the Bengals had another disaster of a year, fired Marvin Lewis and we could bring him back.

This is horrible news. Take Harbaugh instead. Someone that doesn't actually call plays. Or apparently can't manage a game. My Vote for defensive Coordinator Teryl Austin.

Im assuming Dean Pees will get the job.
Whoever it is I hope it isnt a Greg Mattison type
Well I hope it's the Dick Lebeau type... content with being a Defensive Coordinator and never leaves.

How about Mike Singletary?
Well he's the assistant HC of the Vikings as well as their LB coach. I don't know if that means we'd have to make him an assistant HC, because I think there are rules in place to prevent lateral transfers or transfers down - meaning you can't hire someone currently employed by another team to take a position of equal or lesser importance ( I think anyway).

All we need to go with Dan Pees is an assistant named Tom Carrots. For OC, we could go with Harry Kraptz from P.U.

What about Mike Nolan or Eric Mangini?
Nah, that was a year where the Patriots finished middle of the league in defense. Under Peas they actually finished top 10 in defense. Sure the players have a part, but we saw the difference Pags defense had over Mattison's.

It would be similar to the deal that Ryan had when he was here. Singletary would bring a passion to the team that we haven't had since Jumbo Rex left. I think that DC would be a promotion as long as it included asst. HC status. The only question is if Harbaugh could deal with it.
