MERGED: Pagano New Coach Of Colts

151 posts in this topic

I did not see this coming at all. Only one year as a DC? I would've assumed he would've been here at least 2 years.

Anyways, congrats to Pagano. You can't blame him or get mad at him for getting a head coaching gig. Its always good to see coaches in our system move on to greater things. Means we are doing something consistently right.

Yeah, he is a great coordinator and I think he had sooooooo much to do with Cary Williams and Webb playing at a high level. But it was only 1 season. As long as we don't get conservative like we did with Mattison we will be fine. Brooks will hopefully keep dialing up the pressure and the organized chaos.

Also, count your blessings Lewis is coming back (and hopefully Reed) or this would be much worse.

Yea, if Ed doesn't come back with this also happening, it will be much worse.

Can't blame Pagano. Being a head coach is the ultimate goal of all coaches out there and to top it off, he gets to have Andrew Luck as his QB. A lot of coaches would give their right arm to have the #1 overall pick in the draft especially if you can get what many are calling the best QB prospect since John Elway.

C'mon people. Its not the end of the world. How many defensive coordinators have we had? And how many of those had success with our D?

Definitely. He greatly improved our secondary play. Still, we'll be a great defense without him. We were before him, we will be after him.

I don't think Brooks becomes DC, he might be a career assistant - no shame in that, he's pretty good at it. Could be 100% wrong but I'm thinking maybe Dean Pees gets promoted or Teryl Austin as a dark horse.

Pagano you should have learned some class from Eric Decosta! You won't last long with the up and coming Texans in your division! Irsay will treat you like he treated our city as soon as you have a bad year!

Amazing how Chuck after 1 year gets snagged. Of course he is very good. Then you look at the opposite end, Cam. No one wants him. What does that tell us?

Darn. Why couldn't somebody take Cam Cameron? Seriously, that's the fourth D-coordinator since 2000 that somebody else has swiped from us. Pags joins Marvin Lewis, Mike Nolan, and Rex Ryan.

Dont forget about Jack Del Rio.....SMH @ this constant crap.

Don't know why so many people are being bitter about it. None of you would turn down an offer like that if you were in his position.

Wish him the best of luck. Sad to see him go. Hope we don't get another Mattison.

I wish somebody would seek me out and give me a better job with more money. I'd give my two week notice this afternoon!

I dunno man, if what Peyton is saying about how things look right now at Colts HQ is completely true, I wouldn't want to walk into a mess like that as an HC with only 1 year of DC experience under my belt, unless I am going to get a really sweet contract and guaranteed support from the owner.

The heck with Pagano. I'd be alright if he went to any other team (except Steelers/Jets, of course) but Indy???? I still burn every time I hear that word... Indy... traitors to the city, as with Pagano.... but you know what, he'll just crash and burn like every other DC we've had did. Ryan is on his way to joining the crash and burn group, and Pagano won't be too far behind.

Head Coach. He coached the Dolphins in 2005 and 2006 before accepting the Alabama job. Besides, he's making more money coaching Bama than he'll ever make as a coordinator.

We definitely wouldn't want him then because guess who was the Dolphin's next HC before being fired? Cam Cameron.

There it is. If he wanted to be in the NFL, he wouldn't have run away from the Dolphins.

I think we will be fine. This happens every couple of years. The thing is we still have the players intact-Lewis, Ngata, Suggs, Reed, Webb. If Reed and Lewis stay we will be fine!

Do you guys think we are gonna find a replacement from within or will we go out and find a new DC?
[/quote]

Within. I'd bet money that Pees will get the job. His resume is too strong. I actually think that we might be even better on D next year. Now if we can just replace Cam we will be dominant in both sides of the ball.

What I really want to know is how sore are Ray and Ed's shoulders by now with all these coaches using them as step ladders to heach coaching jobs. Seriously, with the talent we have on defense a monkey could run our defense and just let Ray and Ed handle everything.

Im leaning towards Teryl Austin to get the nod over Clarence Brooks or Pees
-Monachino may get a look too.

Not sure who they would look at outside of the system maybe Del Rio, Maybe Mark Carrier will come back
Ive always liked Pepper Johnson the DL coach for the Patriots

Maybe Ozzie would lure Kirby Smart from Alabama, he seems like a bright young mind
