Warmest Wishes To Billy Cundiff

11 posts in this topic

Watching the game between the Patriots and the Ravens on Sunday, my heart sank when Billy missed the field goal. Not because the Ravens lost the game but rather because I immediately felt bad for the negative things people might say or due because of this. In 1986, I watched as the ball went between Bill Buckner's legs in the World Series between the Red Sox and the Mets. Mr. Buckner had a wonderful year ruined by this mishap. (Look at his stats. They were fantastic and he was doing this with no legs!) Billy Cundiff had a great year and I hope that this will not affect the way anyone thinks of him. Let him know that I am old enough to realize that this is only a game. It is not real life and his family is most important. His sons should be proud that their dad plays in the NFL.
It may be surprising but at my age (57) I realize that it is not the team which wins which is important but rather the character of the people which matters most. I thought Billy handled himself very well at the press conference. Know too that, while I am a New England fan, I am now a Billy Cundiff fan for the professionalism he displayed under pressure. Best wishes. Michael J. Greco

Really? <not nice>. Classy, yet can't seem to kick after getting his huge contract. I'd rather have a jerk that makes FG's. Maybe its just me.

Im going to sound crazy right here...
Billy Cundiff is someone I have looked up too. He signed my hat and read my letter i sent him last year. That meant a lot to me since im a senstive anxiety disorder dude. I like his attitude and how he was professional at the press. my heart sunk when he missed it. Just like all of you. I feel terrible for all the things he probably dealt with. I can see it in his eyes that he wants to do better. I know he can do better. i think we should keep for at least one more year. He will be better! I know he will. I am thinking of sending him another letter idk if he would read it since he might think its hate mail. I believe in Billy Cundiff. He is still young for kicker standards. I think Billy needs some competition in camp... and that maybe it's time he went back to selling insurance.

His career %s suggests that he is a crappy kicker. He had one good season and we footed the bill. I feel bad for him, but we overpaid him and with the output he gave us this year we could find somebody else to give us the same for cheaper.

Maybe he just isn't cut out to be a full-time NFL kicker. Its not the end of the world. He can always get a normal job like the rest of us.

I am sure nobody feels worse than Billy about missing the game-tying FG, which would have sent the game to OT. That being said, that kick will haunt him for the rest of his life and will adversely affect his ability to kick other pressure kicks in the future. I wish him the best in all his future endeavors but feel he should look for another job kicking for some high school.

As a parent, I kind of have that feeling of "I love you, I'm just not happy with you right now" when it comes to Cundiff. I know it's not entirely his fault; there were some plays, some calls and the scoreboard issue. All things that contributed to our loss and it isn't all on him.

So, I apologize in that respect.

However, I really think the Ravens need to get him some competition in camp. He performed at a very high level when Graham was around. I don't know what happened with him this season. I know he was injured for a game or two, perhaps that hadn't healed properly.

Anywho, I wish Billy all the best and I hope to see him back on the roster next season.

With his various stints with other teams he shouldn't need a normal job.

If most of us won $2 million in the lottery I'm pretty sure we wouldn't be working.

Billy seems like a nice guy, but he's earning too much for a kicker who, outside of one year has been largely horrible. Even this season he was awful. The kick in the Championship game pretty much summed up his season and his career.
