Do We Give Gaither Another Chance?

If I had to pull off the free agent market, I'd prefer Carl Nicks from the saints. Dude is a beast and young. Of course, I doubt we have anywhere near the money to get him with having to pay our own guys.

As for Gaither ... he only played in 5 games this year. Feels like it would be rolling the dice bringing him back. Does his healthy hold up?

Nicks plays LG, same as Grubbs. I'd rather bring back Grubbs, cause he will probably cost less than Nicks.

I wouldn't mind bringing back Gaither. I stuck up for him as well in 2010 when he had the back injury or whatever.

I would love Gaither. But frankly, I think Rosenhaus would try to use the game he had against us as leverage and try and get us to overpay him.

Who came up with the initial idea to move Gaither to RT and Oher to LT when we had him..? I never agreed with the move. He played great at LT and Oher was an animal at RT. WHY did we try to fix something that wasnt broken?

Our OL is in dire straits.

Birk is expected to retire, and even if he didn't, he is 36 and has little left in the tank.
Same story with his ex-Viking teammate, McKinney.
Then there is Oher, who blindsided Ozzie after being taken 23rd overall a few years ago.
If all of that is not enough, there is a real possibility that we may lose Grubbs.

The only player left on our OL who we have long term and who isn't 68 years old or doesn't suck is Yanda.

We all know Gaither's history. But San Diego took a chance on him, and he was sensational.

Is it time to 'smallow' our pride and beg Gaither for forgiveness and come back?

I think so.

Was he sensational consistently, or did that sensation come from a grudge he held against us? Serious query...

I think that happened when Gaither demanded money and didn't show up to OTAs, it forced Harbaughs hand to put Oher at LT. This is according to Mike Preston, though, so watch out.

I'd rather have Gaither than McKinnie if he is healthy, but I am not that down on Oher either. I think he has played well overall even if he hasnt lived up to his 1st round draft status.

McKinnie is garbage, hes too fat and old for our run scheme. His pass pro is below average at this point too.

While Gaither is talented he has no heart or loyalty, and even in SD he also never seems to finish his blocks and will do the bare minimum.

If McKinnie would actually get back into shape he'd be a solid LT.. certainly more reliable than Gaither has proven to be.

Didn't Nicks play LT at Nebraska or am I thinking of someone else?

Ding ding ding! We have a winner.

We'd be better off drafting a Tackle in the first round this year and flipping Oher to a desperate GM who loved The Blind Side and sees the words "Pro Bowl" on his resume. At least that's what I would do if I was Ozzie. But I'm not!

i stated numerous times we should resign him once he wasnt getting any offers. He would have been worth the risk. I would resing him for sure. Then draft Peter Konz in the first and you move forward with a much improved offensive line.

Gaither/ Oher/ Konz/ Yanda/ Reid

:)

This man had numerous chances the Ravens didn't cut him or give up on him, he gave up on the Ravens....

Sure he had a nice 4 r 5 game run with the chargers that included a good game against us but every one knows Suggs is a streaky sacker gets 2, 0, 1 , 0, 3 etc......

If Gaither goes on to multiple pro bowls good then so be it, but bringing him back after all the controversy would not be a step towards the future and he probably still thinks he deserves top LT type $$$ lol

With Gaither the talent was always there. That wasnt the issue. The issue was his bone headed agent having him "fake" an injury per se and his work ethic at the time; his agent wanted a big contract for Gaither. But Gaither and agent were to impatient; you dont tell Newsome when its time for you to get a big contract, Newsome tells you! He will not be back.

Gaither is a lazy slug. Every nfl scout knew this when he was at UMD. Hes flat out lazy. No we dont want Gaither. That guy blows!

I never wanted him to leave in the first place. Is he getting released by SD?
[/quote]

i never wanted him gone either, i just wanted to get him healthy but he was going to want too much money

now his price has come down tremendously

Cost-risk analysis. If he were to come cheap, he's been here, knows the system, and has tons of talent. But that's assuming he's A) healthy, and B. has developed a much better work-ethic since he's been gone. I don't want to go through 09-10 where he missed 21 games - having a dominant player does you no good if he's not there on the field.

No way. Gaither is not coming back here. We go with Reid and keep McKinnie as a backup. We need Grubbs back, too. I'd even go so far as to look for a backup who will eventually replace Birk. I would give Oher another year, but if he doesn't improve next year then we can look into replacing him. I'd keep Gurode as a backup. He filled in nicely when needed and can play center. I don't think our line is too shabby, but Birk may not make it through another year.
