Do We Give Gaither Another Chance?

51 posts in this topic

Our OL is in dire straits.

Birk is expected to retire, and even if he didn't, he is 36 and has little left in the tank.
Same story with his ex-Viking teammate, McKinney.
Then there is Oher, who blindsided Ozzie after being taken 23rd overall a few years ago.
If all of that is not enough, there is a real possibility that we may lose Grubbs.

The only player left on our OL who we have long term and who isn't 68 years old or doesn't suck is Yanda.

We all know Gaither's history. But San Diego took a chance on him, and he was sensational.

Is it time to 'smallow' our pride and beg Gaither for forgiveness and come back?

I think so.

He hasn't updated it in 2 years...

If we're cutting McKinnie, then yes. I've backed the guy from the start, and to this day I still don't know why people are giving him crap.

San Diego would be nuts to let him go. Three (I think) of their starters on their O-line are probably not going to return including McNeill with injury and he was great for them, especially against us.

If they were to let him walk, I think that bridge was burned before he left us. We didn't want him a year ago and I don't think he'd be welcome back now unless McKinnie isn't coming back for whatever reason.

Well, given that it looks like it hasn't been updated in 2 years I'd guess it's probably not lol

Unfortunately, I dont think we have the cap room for him. Which was probably part of why we let him go(besides the laziness and injuries of course)

Whoever signs him will likely get him for peanuts. Maybe something like $6M for two years.

Never liked us releasing him in the first place. The dude had too much potential, and could have been signed for next to nothing. That was one of the biggest "what the hell" moments when I kept hearing reports that we were going to release him. The guy is a bit of a shady character, but has way too much potential to just give up on IMO. San Diego has been so fortunate to pick up a guy like Gaither.

We didn't release him, he was a free agent.

I do too, but I wonder if it's been like that the whole time or if it changed to Chargers color while he was with SD and wonder if it was changed to Chiefs color when he was with the Chiefs. I wanted Gaither brought back, and as long as SD doesn't re-sign him, I'll welcome him back to Baltimore as a backup to McKinnie or even a competition between Gaither and McKinnie for who the starting LT is.

I would like to see Gaithers back. That website hasn't been updated for two years, so I doubt he changed after he was let go by the Ravens.

I highly doubt it. People knew he was playing at an elite level when healthy with us. After playing at the same level in spot duty this year somebody is going to pony up some money for him. LT are extremely hard to find in free agency, someone will pay.

Harbs is too stubborn to re sign, we wouldn need a new head coach in my eyes to brink back any ex raven under the harbs era

He doesn't want to come here. I don't think his smart enough to go through the drama he brought up on himself in Ravens locker. He'll want a fresh start. San Diego will probably provide that for him.

Of course, even after 3 years, he still will not get the money HE wants. San Diego will give him less than what we originally offered him and he'll take it.

I stuck up for the guy during the 2010 season when he sat out with his mysterious weight loss and back injury... that ship has already sailed.

+1 for the smallow use hahaha.

But only we would find a way to get a franchise LT in the supplement draft, have him totally lose his marbles for 3 months, and then go back to being a franchise calibre LT after we let him walk as a FA.

What was wrong with mckinney though? I thought he did a nice job considering there were no OTAS and didnt get that much time to work with the OL. He will come into training camp in even better shape and have an even better year next year.

And you're right when you say it's about the money. He wanted big cash from the Ravens but the irony is he didn't get it from the Chiefs or Chargers and he's a lot further from that goal than where he started.

100% never heard anything bad about him until the weasel pushed for a big deal before the 2010 season. It was downhill, after that.

Do these players not have a mind of their own? its clear, from where i stand, drew just has one thing on his mind, and its not the players best interests

If I had to pull off the free agent market, I'd prefer Carl Nicks from the saints. Dude is a beast and young. Of course, I doubt we have anywhere near the money to get him with having to pay our own guys.

As for Gaither ... he only played in 5 games this year. Feels like it would be rolling the dice bringing him back. Does his healthy hold up?

I wouldn't mind if we brought him back, still him and his jerk agent will use his play at SD to get him a nice heft contract. I'd hate for him to get that contract then have the SOS happen after he gets it.

I never wanted him to leave either, but now, I just don't think he's the future LT that we're looking for. What room would we have for him? If for whatever reason we release McKinnie, then yes, I'd be clamoring to bring him back. But today, I view him as a stopgap at best.

I say all this because I have no idea why we would get rid of McKinnie. He went under the radar all season long.
