Goodbye Boller

163 posts in this topic

Now that we got quite a steal that all the other 31 NFL teams were dumb enough to not select Troy Smith lets hope they release Boller and McNair helps Smith grow as a QB in the NFL and is our 2nd String QB I see an awesome future with this kid down the road for the Ravens, for once we might actually have picked a fresh QB outta college that will make history and have other teams drooling over him and were lucky enough to have him as a Raven, time to go out asap when the Jersey is released and pickup my Troy Smith Jersey and when I get money get my McGahee.

Don't jump the gun and start cursing the name of Kyle Boller just yet.

He's still an above-average backup and a somewhat capable starter (though not good enough to lead us to another 13-3 record). Yes, he's had his time and hasn't lived up to the hype. But it's still better to have 3 quality QB's on a roster than only 2. Troy Smith can learn from both Boller and Steve McNair, and two heads are always better than one. Boller is, after all, a veteran. He can help Smith adjust to the pressures and criticism of the media (which he's handled well, you have to admit), and McNair can provide Hall-of-Fame-caliber tutelage that is invaluable to any young QB with Smith's skill set.

Boller still has a year left on his contract, so at least let him stick around for the remainder of it and get from him what we can. If, somehow, he shows that he's capable of handling the reins after all this time, then so be it. We've seen stranger things in the NFL.

Sure hope not! He's doing pretty good in NFLE (when they (the o-line) holds the line for more than a half a second, and the recievers catch the ball).

Well, Olson's on the practice squad, not the active roster, therefore, he technically doesn't count...

...but for the record, I admit, I forgot all about him when I was making my point...LOL

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that 6'0" QBs do not make it in the NFL. 229031_confused2.GIF He didn't help himself by looking bad in the NCAA Championship game.

At best, this kid is a clipboard carrier for several years. Doug Flutie midgets make it in the NFL about once every 20 years. I really don't see how he makes the roster, considering Billick's preference for tall QBs and last season carrying only two active QBs. He'd have to beat out Drew Olsen for the taxi squad position, which would be a tall challenge.

I see this as a safety valve, throwaway pick. If Olsen fizzles out, or if McNair's arm gives out at age 35, or if Boller bolts after the 2007 season, we'd have a potential 3rd stringer for a cheap 5th round pick.

Odds are against this kid being around in September. At best, he provides a training camp story, as Olsen's competitor. Not a snowball's chance that he beats out Boller for #2.

There's a reason why 31 other GMs passed on this kid.

time to go out asap when the Jersey is released and pickup my Troy Smith Jersey and when I get money get my McGahee.

Hope you enjoy it. It may be a collector's item! (You may want to consider waiting until he makes the roster, though).

But see, that's because people started to believe the possibility that he could simply be a product of the system and had a great supporting cast at Ohio State. However, I'd like to believe that he won that Heisman Trophy on the merits of his outstanding abilities as a QB. But only time will tell...

He was still on the street my man did not make it to the Curb just yet.

Sure hope not! He's doing pretty good in NFLE (when they (the o-line) holds the line for more than a half a second, and the recievers catch the ball).

This is still NFLE we are talking about too, it does not translate to coming back to the Pros here and suddenly lighting the world on fire. NFLE is akin to Hockeys minors, undrafted guys and guys teams want to farm out go there.

But from time to time they do make it and he does have enough talent if he works on it to make it, I am not willing to flush this just yet but I do want Boller kept I agree that learning under Boller and Mcnair makes more sense both have experiences that could be beneficial to any QB's growth.

If we had resigned Jamal and not traded our third round draft pick away to get Mcgahee, we could have traded up and gotten Quinn but I'm content with a loaded roster this year and a good shot at making it to Arizona.

I also agree that it would be very premature to buy anyones Jersey just yet!

Patriots fans ordering Randy Moss jerseys, we're talking to YOU, here...

Hey what's up Crow, and T. Releasing Boller would be one of the stupidest things this organization has ever done, and it will not happen. Will he walk after this season? More than likely. Can you blame him? Regardless of his ability he has always shut his mouth and has done what he has told, and you couldn't ask anything more of him.

Well if they know what is good for them they will hold off on them, I can still see him taking plays off as it were.

Actually I was only refering to the new rookies, Jarrett has been about a while and has actually accomplished some things. The jury is in session on Dan Cody though this season, he likely needs to be completely injury free or I feel he is going to be practice squad filler soon.

I actually do hope that Boller stays a few more years if only as a back up, it would be in his best interests to keep learning from Mcnair while he has that opportunity to do so.

I'm just hoping Dan Cody doesn't end up being a waste of a 2nd round pick because of a lack of ability. I mean, being injury-prone is one thing. But if Cody doesn't have the skills indicative of a 2nd round pick, then I'll be sorely disappointed.

Well we won't know if he has the skills until he's healthy. Patience Franchise-san. I think we'll know soon, hopefully.

They drafted Smith because they are looking for McNair's heir apparent.

I only have a store brand crystal ball, so I don't know if Smith will live up to his potential and be that long-term answer Ozzie is looking for or not...but it works well enough to let me know the assertion that he won't last until September is just plain wrong. Smith will learn behind McNair, and then he'll get his shot. In fact, Smith will still be here after Boller is gone.

As for being a "Doug Flutie midget," (which I think is a tad personal), the QB for the New Orleans Saints is also listed at 6'0 (link). Didn't he go to the Pro Bowl last year?

Hey, Crow...didn't we already have an "Olsen is our future" thread?

Hmm...I'm only 5'9", and I take exception to a 6'0" QB being called a "midget"...we're just NFL-vertically-challenged...LOL :P

As far as Troy Smith is concerned, I'm on a wait and see. I won't call him a failure but I'm not considering him the franchise QB of the future either. Both of those are rather premature seeing that he hasn't even seen an NFL training camp, let alone an NFL down.

Watch. Wait. See how he learns.

i dont think think its that big of a deal mcnair is only 2 inches taller then smith and boller is a inch taller then mcnair so i guess you cant use height by how good a qb may one day be

Let's not talk about Troy Smith's height (and just to get the record straight on those Flutie comparisons, Flutie was in the 5'7" - 5'8" range). As someone pointed out, Drew Brees is listed at 6', and didn't he come really close to being in the Super Bowl last year? Let's not talk about the fact he won the Heisman. A Heisman Trophy is no guarantee of NFL success, as I'm sure there are numerous Heisman winners we could list who haven't translated into NFL superstardom. Troy Smith is coming into an entirely new game in the NFL, and only time will tell whether or not the Ravens managed to pull off the sleeper hit of the decade in drafting him.

As far as Kyle Boller is concerned? Kyle Boller's two greatest weaknesses are his inconsistency and his lack of grace under pressure. We all can think of moments during his tenure as starter when he has blown a well-executed play by tripping over his own feet. Yes, Boller has at times done well as our QB, but the question is, do those times outnumber the times when he has killed a drive through sheer boneheadedness? His contract is up after this year. . .can you really imagine his prospects for starting for another team will be any better than his prospects here? I doubt it!
