I prefer Mayock as a draft guy, but Mel was spot on in everything he said. Fix the interior of the line with center and guard, get competition for Cundiff. I'd throw in left tackle and maybe a number 1 receiver via draft or free agency, and we're set on offense. But Mel knows how good Flacco is, and now the rest of the country should know.

we have grubbs and yanda though so yeah definitly draft a center matt birk was getting tossed around like a rag doll
Exactly - and why you wonder why the Ravens ran right over Birk at Wilfork on 4th down. It wasn't like a secret at that point that the Ravens couldn't handle Wilfork.

VERY sloppy, ineffective OL yesterday

“We knew their offensive line likes to run, and teams run with them,’’ Love said. “That’s where you get hurt. Our main thing was not to run with them and create our own seams and slow [Ray Rice’s] momentum down....

The Ravens pulled right guard Marshal Yanda, and hoped left guard Ben Grubbs could execute a reach block on Wilfork to spring the play around left end.

It didn’t happen. Wilfork stayed on his mark, didn’t run with the play, beat Grubbs straight up the field, and took down Rice for a 3-yard loss that knocked the Ravens out of field goal range for a game-tying attempt.

“I think to be honest with you, on the run, I think they just cut me loose,’’ said Wilfork, who helped hold Rice to a 3.2-yard average. “I’m always taught when someone [doesn’t] block you, it’s a set up and all. I don’t know if they just missed a block or it was a setup block and I just beat it. I don’t know. "

"Vince Wilfork the difference-maker in Patriots’ win"

While Mel is hit or miss on judging prospects sometimes (far superior to the joke that is McShay), he definitely knows how to analyze team needs. He is exactly right and I would agree with his assessment.

Getting a receiver through FA would be great, but most important is resigning guys who will be requiring more money. I would rather have Lardarius Webb back a million times before gutting our team just to have Vincent Jackson.

But I love the Mel vs. McShay banter. It's always so entertaining.

How great would it be to get a guy like Colston. Every team that has cap room with receiver needs will consider him so he will probably get big money since he already has a ring with the Saints. Colston, Q, and Torrey would be elite next year!

I agree, I feel like Mayock's analysis takes everything into account. But this analysis is perfect. We played a great game but just didn't make the play at the end

So we get rid of Yanda, the 3rd best guard in the league (according to pro football outsiders) or we get rid of Ben Grubbs (the pro bowl alternate of the past)?

Center yes, but it's Oher who needs to go and we need a LT this year or next year.

I think he specifically meant Birk which is why he brought up Gurode who is a 330 pound former pro bowl C. But in all actuality lets be real here, Yanda and Grubbs is a top 3 OG tandem in the entire league. Why the hell when running behind them could we not pick up short yardage? Yanda and Grubbs are definitely not our big problem on the Oline, but damn they were anything but stellar in the post season for run blocking.

Our team has gone back to back 12-4, I think they have been getting it done

I think we will only get better, you have to realize at some point maybe Joe Flacco is on a historic pace for wins and maybe its not a fluke

haha, we r goin to get there at some point

I don't think it was a fluke, but things were open for us this season. Next year we'll have the Texans, maybe the Chargers, the Steelers to beat out in our own division. It's not easy to do, this was the year. Next year...maybe.

its true the race was weaker this year with no Manning, the Texans are getting better....We went undefeated against them..until AFC Championship...they'll get better, we'll get better

Kiper was spot on about everything he said. I was more surprised that both Mikes gave Flacco credit for his performance yesterday, I really thought it was going to be a full on media blasting of Flacco during the off-season.

Something is wrong with the officiating in Foxboro. This wasn't the first time we've had a lack of a replay on a catch. Remember the "muffed punt" against the Pats in the '09 blowout where the Patriots special teamer "caught" the ball, even though he came up with the ball ten yards away? They cut to commercial without replaying the play intentionally so we couldn't watch the play again upstairs.

Now they don't review the ball inside the 2:00 warning in the Conference Championship? I don't buy the "replay assistant reviewed it" BS. There was barely enough time to review it once on TV and you think the assistant had time to go to the box, set up the play, and watch it enough times IN SLOW MOTION to make sure the play was correct? Sorry, but there's no way that could've been reviewed so quickly.

The "We didn't need to stop the game" part bugs me. We're talking about the Super Bowl on the line! We can wait. Until you're absolutely sure you got the call right. Not "oh yeah, good enough, hurry up and kick a field goal without us telling you what's going on".

Thank you Kiper for stating our feelings exactly.

Who is hitting FA exactly? Grubbs, Rice and who else?

I know everyone keeps talking about letting Grubbs walk but I just don't see that being a smart move.

We know we have to pay Rice. Then we have Flacco coming up as well.

Foxworth, your time is done son. Sorry. Not sure what kind of hit we'll have to take on his contract.

Webb is FA this year too? Dang. We might be hurting.

I think our receiving corps will be fine. Evans came on in that game. Yeah, he should have held that ball with a vise grib and yes, he is a veteran, but he's a vet who has never in his life played in a game with that significance. If he'll pass on the bonus and/or take at least a small paycut I'd like to see him back next season.

I think he means right now since Grubbs is a free agent and so is Birk, that the positions are technically unfilled. They are not under contract for next season as of yet, so right now we have holes at those positions. Of course I would hope we sign Grubbs longterm and still find ourselves a left tackle. Birk, I'm sad to say that we need to draft or sign a young center - even if Birk comes back it's obvious that he has a season left at most.

Every time I see San Diego, I think 2 things: one, they embarrassed us, and two, if not for the whining of Philip Rivers, Norv Turner could have been our offensive coordinator. One word: vendetta.

Looks like a tough schedule to me. Steelers twice, Bengals twice, Patriots, Giants, Cowboys, Chargers, Eagles, Texans.
