I would rather we had his replacement before we did that though. He would probably have decent-good trade value, but having him is better than having a Jah Reid that has been known to trip over air.

I agree. It all depends on whether Jah Reid can replace Oher as RT, which I believe he can. I think an offseason of training is just what he needs. I liked Reid down the stretch, too. The few times he substituted for Oher he played well.

Blind side man? he's probably upset from the move to RT. Jah Reid is bigger than he is. I think he may be smarter than he is also (wonderlic)

I carefully watched the series where Jah Reid replaced Oher. He wasn't bad. He had flashes of great and flashes of OK. He blocked well a few times and he got beat a few others. One time he got pancaked. I think he has potential to replace Oher if he gets a full offseason. He had a really nice pass block when Joe threw a quick strike to Boldin. He got pancaked during the PAT.

He didn't get a false start, I know that.

Oher got a 19, Reid got a 23. The Wonderlic is not an exact science, however, and doesn't necessarily display football intelligence. Still, as lost and confused as Oher looks on the field most of the time, and his inability to learn the appropriate time to go off the snap over his three years, it's pretty obvious that he's not a smart man. That might be a big part of why the zone blocking scheme that I know we ran last year, and assume we ran this year, failed so miserably.

The problem with Oher is that if we cut him, someone else is gonna take him and he's gonna train up to be better than before.
It's inevitable. He needs some sort of motivation factor, or else I can't see him stepping it up.

I dunno if thats it. The zone blocking scheme is relatively simple. If he can't understand that, he'd have to be as dumb as a brick. I saw him not following all the fundamentals of the scheme at times though.

He has rare explosiveness, at the very least we should try him at guard where footwork issues won't be much of a problem.

I'd hate to see him on the Bengals/Steelers/Browns running down Ray.

Come on now... this guy has been bounced around from right to left and then back to right with no off season to speak of and you want to bounce him off the team? I say this year he is going to be the best RT in the league with a good offseason and confirmed role he will become the beast we drafted him to be! He is a very strong and talented O lineman - he just needs to be coached up and get his confidence up and we will have a great RT for years to come... just my opinion and if my instincts are right he will go nowhere!

Let him play his contract out and then wave it bye-bye!

If we do this, then we don't get anything for him. If we part ways we do it now or next year. I think he has a 5yr deal. We can probably get a 2nd round pick for him right now.

It would be beyond stupid for us to cut Oher. That won't happen. He is either traded or remains on the team.

It's not a bad idea trying him at guard. He may be better suited there. Maybe Ozzie planned this from the beginning to switch Oher to LG if Grubbs walks That may be why he got Reid. Then again, who knows.

Yeah, he's been bounced around, but he's a professional. I expect some rust initially, but he's still having problems even late in the year. Oher becomes the best RT in the league if he wants to be. He has all the talent, it's just he seems to have mental lapses and loses concentration, which is why he gets those false starts. I like his physicality, but I won't pardon his mistakes.

I believe we should make a commitment to him, though. I don't think Moeller is a good o-line coach. I want a new one. Maybe get Tom Cable or something or Juan Castillo (lol). But if he can't be coached up he needs to be traded.

I don't think we will find someone better. He is not a LT, we need a young LT because McKinney is not gettin any younger. As RT Oher does okay, but we need C, LT and renew Grubbs contract and Grubbs contract should be priority number 2 in the offseason

There is a solution to everything people! And here it is: First and foremost you dont trade or cut Oher. You let him play his contract out, BUT you move him to the Right Guard position(Yanda moves to Center). When his contract is up, you assess how he played at RG, then you resign him based on his play at the RG position. Newsome and Co. are very professional at what they do; It is very hard/rarely they dont bring back 1st round picks. And it takes a lot of bad playing/sub par performance(several years) for the them to say enough is enough, e.g. Travis Taylor, Kyle Boller, and Mark Clayton.

The reason the zone blocking works better for the Texans is because they are far and away the best at executing it. It's a combination of quality, scheme-fitting talent, and good coaching. They rarely make scheme related errors. Their OL is generally always doing the right assignment, and it's really uncommon to see a superfluous blocker not doing something (cut blocks, moving upfield to get a LB, etc).

This is why McKinnie and Oher are the weak links, while these two might be good man/drive blockers McKinnie is too fat and slow getting out of the blocks and Oher still hasn't grasped the mental side of his assignments.

Why would you move a Pro Bowl RG to a different position? If you want to experiment with Oher at OG, put him at LG when Grubbs gets hijacked in FA.

Honestly the idea of Gurode starting at C sounds horrible.

He was a Pro Bowler as a center. I think he can man the position for a year.

Was a Pro-bowl player, we all saw how bad his pass protection is. That's why he's a backup.

Yanda? Center? NO!!!!! Are you crazy?

And why would we move our pro bowl guard to center because our RT is incompetent and we think he'd make a better guard? Thats not how it works. When you suck, you get traded/cut/benched. Yuo don't change people's positions because a player sucks.
