Pagano Is A Bright Spot

9 posts in this topic

I think Pagano is one bright spot on the coaching side of this team.

I think he came prepared today with a very good game plan. His gameplan was successful for the most part.

I would suggest to him that he spend more time with his players on tackling! The one point was to control the TE's you had to drop them at the point of catch and yet they still managed to get some YAC because of poor tackling. Even Pollard didn't tackle today as well as he usually does. We could take a lesson from the 49ers on tackling, they are ferocious tacklers.

We do need some serious overhaul on the Offense though. The O Line has been terrible for the last few games. Today they made the Patriots look like they have a first class pass rush!

Well, by the NFL level, you'd think defenders would have learned how to tackle. You really can't put that on Pags.

The OL pulled it together in the second half, but have been a little rough lately. I wouldn't say first class pass rush though. We allowed I think 3 sacks, and I believe 2 were in the first 3 drives. And you could make an argument that those were coverage sacks.

I agree, though the pass rush is too streaky. It needs to be more consistent. I love what the secondary has become though.

People jumping on Pags need to cut the man some slack. He's had some bad games in terms of playcalling this season, and no one liked to see the Law Firm run all over the defense, but overall he's done a very good job this season. It's obvious the game plan was stop Brady, and the defense did a good job of doing that today. You gotta pick your poison, and we picked Green-Ellis. He was obviously the lesser threat, and we were in a position to win the game today. I'd worried about Pags getting snatched up by another team than, not the future of the defense under him. His players like him, and that's important. He's only going to improve as he enters his second year as a DC.

I think with an offesnce like the Patriots, Pagano did a fantastic job. We knew we couldnt not keep them from scoring. But we kept them from building a big lead. That is what we needed to do.

And yes the "tackeling" was at times horrific. Looked kinda two hand touch to me.

Also consider this, I know Chuck was promoted from within but the players had to learn a defensive scheme. Now considering the lockout, players didn't have time to learn his system and get accustomed to it since players didn't have a chance at looking at playbooks. Now players will have a full off-season and Training Camp to better understand his system and Chuck can fully implement his system the way he wants it.

I hope we pull a Decosta with Chuck and just keep giving him a bunch of money to stay and Chuck stays here forever!

Chuck was definitley my favorite coach on the staff this year. He started to bring out this D's potential. Now this is his defining year though. He has a whole off season to implement his scheme and a whole off season to develop the D. Let's see what he does in terms of

Keeping the pass rush constant and stable from game to game

getting fundamentals like tackling drilled into players both old and young alike - seriously if we established a clinic on this our D would be much better.

Stopping the run. Seriously our D should be just as good as the 49ers at doing this. We have the personnel for it.

And finally developing the younger players. Its going to be his job to use them where they are most effective and turn anyone that steps on that field into a stud
