Candidates For Offensive Coordinator

Not looking at names, what we need is an OC who plays to win the game. Not someone who tries to piggyback on the defense and try not to lose it.

An aggressive mentality on offense could go a long way.

Of those who are obviously available, I would love to see Hugh come in as OC and if he was willing, bring Zorn back in as QB coach to let him finish what he started/help Flacco unlearn anything Cam taught him.

And I'm serious about that last part. I have nothing but glowing praise for Flacco on his performance yesterday. He elevated his game and he led this team to what should have been a win. It took him a few series to settle down, but you can't ask for any more than that. But a comment he made after the game completely perplexed me.

I'm not sure how you sit in the room with Cameron and watch film on your play every game and in any way think that the way you played in the AFC Championship is the way you play -every- week. I love Flacco and I haven't had any doubt that he is the QB we've been waiting for (I won't go into my Cam Hampering speech), but if he thinks that he has played that way in every game then I'm not sure what to think about what he is being told during film study. I still have bad dreams about sitting in the stands here in Seattle and watching that game.

I don't know guys. I'm kind of worried, really. All this talk about Cam leaving due to no extension on the table, yet most of the guys available - like Hue or Mike - are being seriously considered by the Cardinals and Phins respectively. I hope and pray to the good Lord that we don't resign this man. We have to act quickly it would seem, since other teams who haven't gone to the playoffs have been busy little bees. Time to move on from our loss, like RL52 said. Time to approach priority number 1: a new OC.

When can we expect to start seeing news about new players, FA, or coaches?

The ravens job is certainly more appealing that the Phins and Cardinals job. You get playoff exposure.

Yes yes yes yes yes. I will pay for Cam's plane ticket to KC myself.

Poor Matt Cassel or Kyle Orton... that's all I am going to say about that.

I think if you're a potential OC who was or wants to be a HC, the Ravens are the team you want to go to. If you do your job well, you have a very high probability of finding yourself immediately in the playoffs and getting that prime time/national coverage. You've got most of your pieces already with enough room for improvement to help put your own stamp on the offense. I think most guys would jump at it.

I see what you're saying, but the prime time coverage is desired because OC/DC get show they're worthy of a better job (i.e. HC). Why go to a team for that prime-time coverage, for the sake of showing your worth more, when other teams apparently already see that and want to give you that position. Besides, everyman has his price. Unless the Ravens are willing to pay someone more money as an OC than what they would make as an HC elsewhere I seriously doubt either of these guys are coming here.

Oh man! I just had an epiphany. No no .. not on who we should get for OC.

Here's what we do, we call up the Steelers and tell them that we have thought about our behavior in the past and we want to apologize. We've been too hard on them and we are really sorry about breaking their quarterback so many times. Then we tell them that to show how sincere we are and since we know they had to make a tough decision getting rid of their longtime OC we are going to give them ours. And since a contract isn't legal in the US unless something of value is given in both directions, all we ask is that they run up to Philly and get us like 60,000 cheese steaks.

This is brilliant and I'm pretty sure it will work. Cam is gone and I'm pretty sure that would guarantee another Steelers sweep next season and maybe the year after if they don't catch on. Then we can bring in Jackson and Zorn for a smooth transition.

I like Hue Jackson or Jim Zorn due to the familiarity with Joe and our team more. Now isn't Hue the type who is more of a run first team? It seemed when he was in Oakland the ground game was the main strength of the offense. Now that is the offense we need to get back to, screw trying to become a passing team. We aren't Green Bay, New England or New Orleans, we win with Ray Rice and the running game. I want to get back to that, give Rice the ball 20-25 times a game, that's the offense I want to get back to and Hue can be the one to do that.

ARIANS FTW!!!

this may be so in your head, but statistically the steelers were better....
Yardage maybe, but points, I really doubt it. Steelers fans despise arians the way we cam, why the hell would you want him? Lets not act like the steeler O was great

I can't shed much light on the contract situation but I think Hue would relish the opportunity to come back here (though he IS power hungry) and command an offense that has the potential to be top-10.

I read somewhere that Cam was making 2 million. If they're willing to spend that much on a terrible OC like him, I imagine price is not a big deal in figuring out who the next OC will be.

I'm getting a bit scared though, I was hoping there would be an official story that Cam won't be brought back by now. The FO needs to get this taken care of before all of the good candidates are gone.

That was my thought process I mean look at how he open it up for Ben....granted the running offense suffered but Ben was a 300 a game guy and they still won 12 games......but looks like he got forced to retire.
plus he knows how to win against our devision and its not like he sucked pitt just wants to go with a different "blue collar" offensive philosophy.... probably to extend bens miles

I can see why teams around the league might be interested in Cam. Perhaps a younger team that needs basic gameplan/playbook. Plus they see the number or wins he accumulated and think 'what the hell'.

na thats for mike mccoy

McFadden was doing work before he got the injury bug plus Oakland likes going deep so he would be like a match made in heaven.

Hue has my vote! He knows our system, our players and our organization. Plus, Joe LIKES him. I'm ready for a change and Hue fits the bill.

I don't feel sorry for Matt Cassel one bit. I'm jealous. He sat on the bench for four years at USC, sat for 3 years on the bench in New England, learned their system almost as good as Tom Brady, had one spectacular season, and is now making over 10 million a year as KC's quarterback. Obviously he's got more talent in his left finger than I ever had or will have, but still, think about it - one season and the man get's paid like he's an elite quarterback. Of course, Matt Flynn could top him - one game and they're already talking about teams being interested in him as their starter.

Makes you wonder how "elite" Brady really is huh? Seems like you can plug anyone into that QB slot. Brady has just reaped the rewards of a great HC

Cam went to Mobile with the rest of the coaching staff btw

That doesn't mean he won't be let go. At least I hope it won't.

Nah I don't look at it that way. Cassel, like Matt Flynn, had talent, otherwise they wouldn't have been drafted. Both guys sat for 4 years and learned the system. Both guys had amazing offensive coordinators. Both guys had sick weapons - Jennings, Driver, Jones, Nelson, Finley for Flynn, Moss and Welker for Cassel. If you have that much time and a good coach with good players around you, you can succeed - I'm just greatful Joe succeeded as well as he has with Spam running the show. Besides Cassel did okay last year in KC - threw 27 TDs with only 7 picks. Brady is just blessed with great talent and a great head coach who puts players around him. Actually it really makes me wonder, because Brady had great players, so did Rodgers, but Peyton Manning's team crashed and burned without him. It makes me wonder, if I had Peyton Manning and gave him Brady's teams, or Rodgers' teams, or Rivers or Brees' teams, what could he do with them?
