How Do We Lose A Game When...

55 posts in this topic

How do you lose a game where you shut down Brady for the most part, control Gronkowski, cause 3 turnovers, and stay within striking distance of one of the highest scoring teams in the league? Joe did what he had to do, Ray was shut down in the first half but began to pick it up in the second. The D wasn't perfect but they came through at the toughest times in creating the late pick by Smith and stopping the Pats after the turnover on downs. Really we couldn't ask for it to be set up better for Joe and then Joe did the d@mn thing and put us in position to win or tie. Maybe it was just destined that we didn't win because looking at everything it seems we would have won going away. I watched the game and I don't know how but I do think we left some points on the field and I think the hidden yardage in Woodhead's KO return after our FG hurt really bad.
I have a hard time giving the Pats credit but they won the game, they found a way and we are going home so I will say that they have to be the better team. But it just makes me sick.
Teams change from year to year, just the chemistry and I think Boldin said it, 'we will never be here again' with these guys, with this vibe. I hope we can be here again with an even better team and a better vibe.

we didnt score enough.

A few more yards here and there. A few more first downs. An extra TD or two and Cundiffs kick would not have mattered.

If the defense had covered better, tackled better, knocked down a few more passes, prevented a few first downs and some touchdowns then Cundiffs kick would not have mattered.

This is how a TEAM wins and looses.

You miss a field goal to tie the game, that's how
But then I ask how do you get to the point where you need a field goal just to tie ?

Lee Evans thought he was untouchable for a brain fart moment.

The refs don't see that Lee Evans has an obvious TD.
It wasn't a TD. The ball popped loose the the same split-second his second foot came down.

Thats my point.

TEAM wins TEAM looses.

If our D had been better, if out offesne had been better Cundiffs kick would not have mattered.

I was on the phone. I screamed, ran around the house, and my boy was like "ball was stripped" - I fell to my knees and actually banged my head on the floor. Still have a headache. Looks like Lee and I BOTH started celebrating early. /sigh

Lee Evans drops an easy TD 2 plays earlier and apperently (I wasn't watching) a brutal pass interference went uncalled on the previous play as well.

Ok partner. That much I know. You lose because you didn't score more points than the opposing team. Thanks for the insight.

and there was more than just those two plays in this game.
The Pats score did they not ?
We punted did we not ?
Right there are two MORE reasons we lost the game.

Win as a team loose as a team.

I wasnt trying to be insulting.
Trust me on that.

I realise you did not blame Cundiff, but a lot of people here are. Some are blaming Evans. My point to every one and no one in perticular is no football game should ever come down to just one play. Yes I realize some times they do ( as ours did today ) but idealy they should not.

Thats all I am sayin'

Did Houston outplay us? I would say so if they didn't turn over the ball 4 times but fact is that Houston did. The turnover battle is an important one and it loses you games. It lost Houston the game last week. End of story. No sour grapes there. This game, we won the turnover battle again but we lost. And I will say that. We lost. It's hard to undersand and accept but we lost it. And because we lost I say we are not the better team because we found a way to lose a game it seems we should have won.
Bro, 100% without a doubt if I were in FL right, now I would! I will be licking my wounds this entire week all the way up until my annual "dudes weekend" that starts Friday and is a 3 day bender in OC, MD with my three best friends and no wives or kids. Normally we do it for St Pattys day, but two of us are having kids in March this year. So, January it is!!

Okay.
No offense taken then.
But most football games with two good teams come down to just a few plays.
I agree in a certain sense that it should not have come down to Evans or Cundiff and I can point to a few things but the facts are that it did and those were the times where we could not fall short or suffer the consequences.
I mean we force 3 turnovers but only got 6 points off them.
Joe underthrew Torrey on a play that was a sure TD and we end of with a FG.
The Oline doesn't give Joe just a half second longer to hit Torrey on another deep shot and Joe overshoots him.
In the 4th Qtr after the Pats took the lead, it seemed we had 3 legit shots at points and didn't cash in on one.
I guess I answered my own question here.
When I asked it I was still just upset, no real reactions to what I had seen besides disappointment.
